TITLE: Software Development Manager
Location: Remote An ICS Insurance client is seeking a Software Development Manager to come in and run their production support team. along with some business analysis. Previous hands on development skills are key to making the person selected for this role successful. This will be a very technical role. You will need to build out structure around production support tickets, service desk management.Ideal candidate should be coming from Production support within development. Communication, understand how to work through fires/critical issues and having a sense of urgency will be key. This position oversees the functionality and productivity of an agile software development team as they write, test and deploy software products. This role will manage the software engineering delivery team and act the role of technical lead. Job Description- Establish best practices, structure and processes to ensure the software engineering department on and offshore performs efficiently and delivers a quality product.
- Direct and mentor technical delivery team in design and technical solutions of new software development and enhancement efforts including identifying risks/gaps.
- Communicate complex technology solutions to Executive, technical and business operation teams.
- Coordinate with product management and architect teams to ensure strategy and architecture are well-integrated into applications
- Manage department training and professional development for each of the employees.
- Manage/maintain resource assignment and capacity management responsibility to fulfill deliverable requests
- Set department goals and track metrics that continues to build and maintain a high- performing team.
- Data management (protecting sensitive company/customer data, drive space management)
- Recruit, interview, hire, on-board new department members; conduct performance reviews, check-ins & mentoring
- Communicate with the Executive team and other department heads to ensure alignment of priorities.
- Engage other departments to build and maintain strong working relationships that keep everyone aligned to organizational goals and objectives.
- Bachelor Degree required
- 8+ years as a Java developer/engineer; required.
- 3+ years software development team management/technical lead experience required
- 3+ years software product related experience preferred
- Experience with Python, Node JS, ESB, CI/CD tools including test automation preferred
- Experience using scrum agile development practices
- Effective written and verbal communication skills along with strong organization, decision making and management abilities
- Ability to take initiative and ownership on tasks
- Team player, leader and consensus builder
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel (minimal, as needed)
- 8+ years with Core Java/J2EE Development required
- 3+ years of IT employee leadership experience required
- 5+ years SQL experience required
- 4+ years of database technology experience preferred
- 2+ years of experience in micro-services architecture applications preferred
- 2+ years of experience in AWS or cloud technologies required
