NOTE: I have worked with this person for 2+ years and I will be personally reviewing the incoming applications. This position requires attention to detail, an ability to set goals, and tolerance for ambiguity. This person travels internationally and domestically much, much more than you are prepared for.
Attention to detail: This individual may be one of the busiest individuals you will ever meet. The more time that is required of him to proofread and correct mistakes on documents you prepare for him is time taken away that he could be addressing other issues. Likewise, you will need an attention to detail to catch things that this individual may miss because they are so busy.
Ability to set goals and self-direct: There will be situations where you will go extended periods of time without contact (e.g., long plane flights, occupied in meetings) and thus not have immediate responsibilities. Sitting around and “waiting to be told what to do” is not an effective use of this ‘downtime’.
Tolerance for ambiguity: There will be times that you will be given tasks without clear instructions. You will be expected to do these tasks to the best of your ability without getting flustered, with the understanding that there will likely need to be corrections or adjustments regardless of the final output. It is important to not take these corrections personally as they are most often in the interest of speed.
Domestic and international travel: There will be times where flights are planned weeks or months in advance, and sometimes flights will be spontaneously scheduled. You must be adaptable and ready to accommodate both these sudden changes as well as long stretches of time without face-to-face contact.
