What does an exceptional System Engineer do?

As a Systems Engineer, you will be part of the FTS Systems Administrators team that is primary responsible for configuring client systems and applications. You will also be troubleshooting processing errors and system issues, providing efficient solutions to clients in need.

As a System Engineer you can look forward to:
  • Managing Redhat and Oracle Linux systems and infrastructure.
  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining server hardware and virtual guest systems.
  • Overseeing all phases of migrations and upgrades, to include VMware, Azure, and PCF Cloud.
  • Reviewing file and service changes effects on other system components.
  • Monitoring Linux policies, compliance, and CIS security policies using tripwire and Symantec CCS.
  • Performing hardware and software upgrades to Linux servers including operating systems, firmware, and applications.
  • Coordinating various teams for disaster planning and perform network backup and monitor recovery processes.
  • Documenting Linux systems, operational procedures, and hardware inventory for the environment.
  • Participating in incident support and problem resolution as needed.
  • Contributing to maintenance of organizational audit & compliance requirements (e.g. PCI, SSAE16)
  • Mitigating vulnerabilities, applying patches and tech-level OS updates.
  • Analysis, development, testing, break-fix, and on-call duties as needed.
  • Being detail oriented, analytical and using your problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of system administration tools and processes.
  • Using strong verbal and written communication, with your ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization.
  • Leading troubleshooting bridge calls and drives to find root cause and resolution; makes recommendations for long-term resolution of problems across the enterprise.
  • Leading complex initiatives and issues within the UNIX functional technical area as well as cross functional areas.
  • Utilizing NAS and SAN attached storage on UNIX/Linux platforms.
  • Adhering to established Fiserv UNIX technology standards and consults with senior leadership on technology solutions as needed.
  • Performing other duties as required

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Degree in CIS, MIS, or Technology is preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in Linux System Administration or Engineering.
  • Exposure to scripting in Python, Bash, Java Script, PHP, HTML, CSS, MYSQL, SQL Lite or Java
  • Exposure to agile methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Linux RHEL6/7, Apache, SSL certificates and Ansible
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and Cloud (Azure, PCF)
  • VMware Systems administration skills - vSphere, vSAN, vRealize, Operations Manager (vROPS), vRealize Automation, Middleware, WebLogic, Redis
  • Comprehension of network security and server hardening concepts.
