Sr Operations Engineer (Contract to Perm)

Duties: Overview: Sr Operations Engineer (SOE) reports to the Global Operations Director as part of the Global Operations Support Engineering team and provides operational services for the teams supporting Our Clients, News, Sports and Entertainment brands and infrastructure. The WarnerMedia Global Operations teams oversee the 24x7x365 stability, integrity, and efficient operation of large-scale digital platforms and infrastructure. The platforms deliver content and services, which includes web, video, messaging, and applications to various technologies (i.e. mobile devices, computers, etc.). The SOE responsibilities include administration of monitoring and monitoring ingestion systems, development and maintenance of internal Global Operations tools, management of Global Operations cloud accounts, and providing additional technical support as needed. The SOE will also work with the individual Global Operations teams and their management to assist engineers and administrators with problem solving, incident triage, documentation, training, mentoring, and process improvement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist management with guiding technical direction for Global Operations teams
  • Architect, develop and maintain custom full stack AWS web applications (Python, Node, PHP) for Global Operations teams, including custom integration solutions for partner operations and development teams. - Implement monitoring for production systems for quality and performance and ensure that monitoring is accessible, available, and relevant for Global Operations teams for critical or near-critical system issues.
  • Assist Global Operations business consultants and management as a specialized technical resource when meeting with brand development teams.
  • Create and review documentation as needed for Global Operations teams
  • Create and maintain documentation for Global Operations tools - Collaborate with other groups to set standards and document production configurations.
  • Assist with the recommendation of policies and procedures to be used to support the Digital Services environment.
  • Daily management of bugs, requests, projects, and other work as requested by Global Operations teams and their brands.
  • Participate in regular stand-up meetings and communicate with other
Global Operations Support Engineering team members
  • Continuously updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, open-source user groups, reading professional publications and white papers. Stays abreast of current and cutting edge Internet operations best practices, establishes personal professional network - Support scheduled installations/upgrades and maintenance in accordance with established IT policies and procedures and business requirements. - Works closely with business owners on change and maintenance windows/requests as needed.
  • Provides guidance to team members in the day-to-day support of the Digital Products, Services and Infrastructure management.
  • Implement or develop automation, monitoring, reporting or systems administration tooling to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Global Operations teams and client service reliability.
  • Must be able to work within a shift-based environment and an on-call rotation
  • Manage and own Global Operations AWS account spend and security - Manage and administrate Global Operations monitoring and monitoring ingest tools

Qualifications:

Required work experience: Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer science or software engineering or equivalent practical work experience. 3+ years of experience within a media or internet technology operations environment with enterprise-level production support experience in a Linux/Unix and Windows environment. 3+ years of experience architecting, developing, and/or implementing cloud-based, containerized full-stack web applications in Python, Node, and PHP.
  • Expertise within internet application support experience within open source platform environments.
  • Expert level experience implementing and supporting container based environments based on Kubernetes, Docker and other container orchestration solutions.
  • Expert level experience implementing and supporting common AWS services (Lambda, EC2, ECS, Fargate, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, API Gateway, CloudFront, CloudWatch, IAM, SNS, SES, SQS) or other cloud provider equivalents.
  • Configuration and integration experience with modern, commercial, open source and SaaS based monitoring tools {Zenoss, Nagios, Zabbix, Monit/mmonit, Kibana, Catchpoint, Conviva, Circonus, DataDog, BigPanda, Rigor, New Relic, Cloudwatch and etc} .
  • Demonstrable DevOps experience with full stack web applications in two or more web/systems programming languages/frameworks: Python (Flask and Jinja2), PHP, Javascript (Node and Express)
  • Demonstratble experience implementing responsive web UI/UX with
HTML/JS/CSS (Including jQuery and Semantic UI) and 3rd party REST APIs
  • Technical and problem solving skills in multiple flavors of Linux/Unix such as RedHat, Ubuntu, CentOS, SmartOS, X-86 Solaris and etc. - Should be knowledgeable in configuration management, automation, orchestration systems (e.g Terraform, CloudFormation, etc)
  • Must possess collaboration skills, have a passion for lean processes, should be innovative, creative, quick thinker, fast learner, and a team player with a strong customer service focus
  • Troubleshoots problems quickly and effectively
  • Advanced technical competency in server and cloud administration, client service, user authentication, configuration management tools, internal & external monitoring tools, networking troubleshooting and concepts and shell scripting.

Preferred work experience:
  • Lead experience in an application, operations or support center - Familiarity with Internet security best practices and risk management elements.
  • Advanced knowledge of private/public IaaS or SaaS cloud service providers such as AWS or Azure leveraging EC2, S3 or other services - Experience in physical enterprise systems for storage, clustering, filesystems, RAID, Volume Managers, networking, and security - Knowledgeable regarding emerging technologies in the digital media marketplace
  • Solid virtualization experience and knowledge of best practices.
  • Self-motivated, goal oriented and meticulous individual, who can adhere to departmental processes and procedures and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Able to multi-task and manage changing and possibly conflicting priorities to meet demands of internal and external customers.
  • Excellent analytical, communication (verbal and writing) skills, processoriented.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with management, multiple business units and product development teams
  • Works well with others in an integrated team environment
  • Verifiable background supporting Development teams and build, test and release platforms.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of the complete inter-workings between hardware, applications, networking and users experiences.
