DescriptionJOB DESCRIPTION:

As part of the School of Medicine's Division of Animal Resources (DAR), maintains a regular presence in animal facilities to review cage label questions, and interfaces with animal care and research personnel to determine needs.

Verifies that cards are produced for transfers and replaces cards/labels for protocol-protocol transfers.

Provides feedback to census coordinator regarding location and cage types. Coordinates manual cage card production and participates in label production.

In conjunction with DAR census coordinator, provides for barcode activation and de-activation, coordinating activity with animal care technicians, animal order coordinators, and transfer activity.

Trains research staff regarding DAR barcode policies, corrects incorrect card usage situations, meets with researchers and/or research teams to clarify labeling of cages.

Identifies cages with expiring protocols and notifies research staff of need to transfer.

Provides the Leadership team with feedback regarding improper use of cage labels (non-documenting of weanings, etc) and other duties as needed.

Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or equivalent and five years of animal husbandry/care experience.

OR

Certification as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) and four years of animal husbandry/care.

AND

Experience with clerical work having used email and calendar, word processing, and spreadsheet software.

Experience with database query/filters as well as entry.
