Job Description

As the LaboratorySupervisor, you will beresponsible for the supervision of a team of technicians and engineers who perform testing services to determine the mechanical performance, physical composition, and quality assurance of consumer products.

  • Supervisory responsibility of direct reports (hiring: interviewing, planning work, scheduling, performance evaluations, and performance management. Perform annual performance evaluations on direct reports, and indirect reports, as applicable.
  • Schedule laboratory personnel as needed to ensure that all samples are properly received, identified, prepared, and analyzed in a timely manner, according to established work procedures.
  • Schedule work flow through the department so that client deadlines are met in a timely fashion; monitor throughput and performance.
  • Determine the priority status of all samples in each day’s lab batch and ensure the expedited processing of samples to meet the client’s requirements.
  • Facilitate training of all new laboratory technicians and reinforce their training with copies of applicable standards (ASTM, Federal or State regulatory standards, ISO, etc.) and customer-specific protocols.
  • Develop, write, review, perform and validate test methods, laboratory SOPs, and other department-level operating and quality documents. Authorized to review and sign data sheets and reports.
  • Investigation of, response to, and follow-up of client inquiries and complaints.
  • Ensure that each person has sufficient information, resources and materials to do their job safely. Provides technical training, advice and support to the Laboratory staff as required.
  • Develop and maintain maintenance schedules for all equipment located in the laboratory
  • Developing plans for efficient use of materials, instruments, and employees;
  • Review all round robin and quality control data on a daily basis and update all quality control logs and charts as required.
  • Develop a storage system where all laboratory worksheets, notebooks, tablets, and other paperwork or files can be stored to comply with the company Records Retention schedule.
  • Responsible for enforcing all safety rules and regulations. This applies to all persons employed at the branch as well as anyone visiting or passing through the affected areas.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all calibrations, standardizations, and equipment maintenance are performed at the specified times, that they are in accordance with all company procedures and specifications, and the results of these tests are recorded in all logs.
  • Instruct all new employees on the confidentiality aspects of analytical reports and information, and perform periodic reviews.
  • Prepares or supervises preparation of samples for analysis or testing.
  • Selects and adapts most appropriate methods and techniques from a variety of possibilities, some of which may appear equally suitable; as needed, researches and develops new or modifies methods and techniques when standard ones are inadequate.
  • Independently performs tests or analyses using a variety of complex methods and techniques, which may require solving problems inherent with the methodology; calculates results, evaluates findings and determines needed for further analysis; prepares comprehensive reports which document methodology, evaluate findings and explain other information pertinent to the analysis.
  • Manages a large complex laboratory operation, with responsibility for the quality and quantity of the work of others.
  • Helps to develop and validate new methods of analysis with the Lab Manager in cases where clients require specific methods to be used or where more efficient methods of analysis have been identified.
  • Works in partnership with other Technicians to solve client problems to ensure quality and customer satisfaction standards are met.
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or Science field.
  • Master’s degree Preferred
  • 5-8 years working in relevant engineering field with 3-5 industrial/test lab setting with experience following strict safety standards
  • 2-3+ years supervisory or team lead experience
