Materials and Process Engineer

Job Description

Responsible for technical/production support, process/product development and optimization of Aerospace and Industrial gas turbine systems for assigned areas and its applicability to NPI, Repair and OEM businesses. Leading moderate scope project teams producing new designs, repairs and processes; utilizing Lean tools and methodologies to positively impact the business metrics.

5-8 years of experience in the Aerospace or Industrial gas turbine engine manufacturing or repairs

BS Engineering (Material Science, Chemical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Aerospace), required

Provide processing expertise for a wide range of coating applications that include pack cementation, aluminum diffusion coatings, corrosion resistant coatings, and other functional coatings to include spray on application methods

Develop, Refine and Establish chemical processes to include electroless and electrolytic plating, braze stripping, coating striping, degreasing operations, and the analytical testing procedures for all process tanks.

Provide programing expertise for developing and managing the aluminum diffusion coating oven recipes.

• Utilize project management skills to lead assigned projects/programs to successful completion considering technical, budgetary, manpower and schedule requirements
• Collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment to develop component designs and repairs; which meet site, Chromalloy and customer requirements for cost, performance, and durability.
• Engage with the other engineers at the site to collaborate on projects and development of robust solutions impacting site operational and financial performance, utilizing Chromalloy Performance Excellence (CPEX) tools; positively impacting the end customer
• Assist in making technical decisions on product/process design and provide definition to the team to ensure mutual success.
• Owns technical aspects of assigned components and or processes from initial concept through all manufacturing stages.
• Identify, develop and implement tooling/equipment improvements. Troubleshoot process/production problems and implement actions/solutions, monitor sustainability of actions and report out results.
• Prepare accurate written technical reports, specifications, procedures and manuals
• Prepare and deliver presentations of work to all levels of external and internal customers
• Trains less experienced technical staff
• Work in a lab and field environments. Occasional travel required.

Qualifications

• Technical background related to manufacturing and repairs of turbine engine components
• Technical knowledge of corrosion resistant coatings, curing operations, chemical cleaning, plating, and stripping processes such as: Nickle plating, Alkali cleaning, Acid Stripping & cleaning, Degreasing, Masking, Diffusion Coatings, Chromate conversion treatment, Heat Treatment and various coating pre and post operations.
• Working knowledge of EH&S, federal, state, and local government regulatory requirements for permitting and compliance.
• Technical knowledge of various machining Processes such as: turning operations, milling operations, and grinding operations.
• Technical knowledge of various surface preparation processes such as: abrasive blasting, shot peening, masking, waxing, and dewaxing processes.
• Technical knowledge of metallographic evaluation processes such as: coating thickness determination, grain structure evaluation, etching solutions, specimen mounting, polishing and evaluation processes.
• Knowledge of 3D CAD modeling, various measuring techniques including CMM, white-light/laser scanning, gages, adhesion, hardness etc. and their use in development

· CAD software experience (SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent)

• Familiar with aerodynamic, performance, and heat transfer disciplines
• Familiar with all aspects of inspection, GD&T, Interpretation of engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications
• Knowledge of FAA guidelines for PMA and RS-DER requirements and compliance testing preferred
• Working knowledge of program management tools and skill set
• Thoughtful and effective communications skills
• Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
