Position Description

Provides nursing assistance and patient care to provide for the comfort, safety and personal needs of patients. Assists physicians/physician assistants/nurse practitioners in medical office setting. Performs a variety of patient care duties within the construct of a multidisciplinary patient care team as delegated by physician. Specific duties and responsibilities assigned to the individual will be determined by the supervising physician(s), clinical staff and Practice Coordinator after competency is established. Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Records patient medical history and specific information related reason for visit. Prepares patient for examination by performing and recording preliminary vitals such as blood pressure, temperature, weight.
  2. Reports abnormal symptoms, unusual conditions or adverse reactions to physician.
  3. Prepare exam and treatment rooms. Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, sterilizing instruments as needed.
  4. Assists physicians and nurses with physical examination and treatments, and performs surgical preps and simple dressing changes.
  5. Enters physician orders for tests, procedures, etc. into computer system. Schedule tests and treatments, as ordered by the physician.
  6. Transcribes medical orders, prints lab reports.
  7. Prepare and administer over-the-counter medications as ordered by the physician.
  8. Maintains a clean, neat and safe environment. Activities may include but are not limited to tidying room, cleaning equipment, changing bed linens, restocking work areas, keeping rooms and hallways clear of debris, emptying trash, logs for refrigeration, eyewash, defrosting refrigerators, cleaning cabinet surfaces, and completing discharge room cleans.
  9. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuries to Manager.

Position RequirementsRequired Qualifications:
  1. Graduate of Medical Assistant program or Graduate of a U.S. Military Medic course. In lieu of medical assistant program education or Military Medic course, 1 year of Medical Assistant experience.
  2. Expertise in ambulatory/physician office practice flow and activities; specialty specific disease processes and conditions; in-office procedures, and patient education.
  3. Current BLS card (CPR).
  4. Color vision acuity is required to safely perform the duties of this position if such duties are related to lab duties.

  5. All applicants must submit to and pass a Color-Acuity screening Test if such duties of this position are related to lab duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Certified as Medical Assistant.
  2. Two years patient care experience in an ambulatory or acute care setting
