Senior Director, Innovation Strategic Communications

As Senior Director, Innovation Strategic Communications, you'll report to the Chief of Staff, Innovation and infuse innovative mindsets, practices, and programs across and beyond the organization through omni-channel communications and creative outputs for internal and external stakeholders. You will lead an execution focused team to develop creative communication strategies, campaigns, and materials that transform the process and perception of healthcare. Your team will work cross functionally across Innovation to create the right message in the right medium to engage audiences and help them understand the value of Innovation's programs and strategic objectives. This is a hands-on role for someone who leads from the front and is skilled at skilled at translating complex organizational strategy and technical programs into communications plans, campaigns, and materials for a variety of audiences, providing guidance on communication and design, managing a portfolio of projects, and leading a team of creatives focused on execution. Responsibilities:
  • Lead Innovation Creative Services team to deliver thoughtful, well-executed, and effective marcom and creative materials.
  • Ability to prioritize and drive a portfolio of omni-channel communication and creative projects from concept through delivery, engaging stakeholders appropriately.
  • Develop communication strategy, plans, and campaign concepts. Adept at managing timelines, presenting and communicating progress to executive teams.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships to drive results.
  • Direct multiple major projects/programs with broad scope and strategic business impact.
  • Work collaboratively across a matrixed, cross-functional structure, and hire, train, coach, counsel, and evaluate the performance of direct reports to develop a high-performance team.
  • Track outcomes and manage activities and program performance in accordance with budget and strategic direction.
Skills needed to thrive in this role:
  • Relentless focus on execution. Strong record of delivering communications from concept through delivery for complex topics in an engaging and effective way.
  • Strong ability to identify the key messages for a given topic to connect the audience and drive engagement, understanding, and action.
  • A no problem too big or small mindset - willing to lean in and enthusiastically help with an email review up to the conceptualization of a marcom plan for a program that transforms the enterprise.
  • Strategic mindset and the ability to see and act within the bigger picture while connecting dots and finding opportunities for collaboration
  • Skillful at building consensus and making thoughtful, data-driven recommendations for project / program prioritization, solution design, issue management, risk identification and mitigation
  • Excellent business judgment and a practical, common-sense approach to getting things done
  • Masterful cross-functional communication to ensure all technical and non-technical stakeholders can collaborate effectively and stay engaged throughout the lifecycle of a project
  • A "radar" for identifying when a struggling project needs additional guidance from you or knowledge from other experts within Anthem
  • Ability to insightfully examine the status quo, analyze opportunities for improvement, creatively generate solutions, and demonstrate the grit to realize the change
  • Leadership and the ability to inspire, motivate, and organize a team, winning the respect of your peers and direct reports
Qualifications
  • BA/BS 4+ years of experience in driving strategic communications, creative services execution, marketing, or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Demonstrated results with progressively increasing responsibilities and 2+ years of people-leadership experience with the proven ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and a geographically distributed team.
  • Experience with PR, Technology, Healthcare (Payer or Provider) highly preferred.
