The Delta Cloud Engineering team designs, engineers and operates automation platform technology solutions that are leveraged by all Delta Air Lines product development teams. The Delta Cloud Engineering is responsible for self-service Windows and Linux platform provisioning, hybrid (public and private) cloud management, and Delta's Platform-as-a-Service operating environment.

Job Overview:

In this position as a Sr. System Engineer you will be responsible for assessing, designing, planning and implementing DevOps capabilities in complex, multiple application, production environments.

In this role you will leverage VMWare technologies, including vCloud Suite, Ansible and third-party cloud partners as an engineer that will grow and support an Enterprise Hybrid Cloud (EHC) managed environment. This Sr. Engineer will also participate in, support, and direct engineering efforts for customer technology platforms migration to the cloud. mentor, train, and lead fellow team members and peers through design and implementation decisions to achieve balance between strategic design and practical needs for company initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Build end-to-end application deployment solutions for Delta product delivery teams. Implementation of projects from concept to delivery from an operating platform perspective. Participate in scrum agile teams in a DevOps engineering role.
  • Support our Ansible Automation Platform enterprise environment including engineering playbooks, training and developing standards and guidelines for engineers in their use of Ansible.
  • Design, implement and support VMWare vRealize Automation/vRealize Orchtestrator 7.X/8.X as Delta's cloud management platform. Lead and participate in VMWare configuration and development, testing, proof of concepts, and solution validation. This will require extensive development experience, specifically in Javascript and TLM tools such as Git and Jenkins.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for VMWare vRA/vRO, Ansible Tower and Cisco UCS technologies. Troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion and provide root cause analysis, involve the appropriate resources as needed. Act as lead for escalation of issues.
  • Provide expert technical architectural support and guidance for solution opportunities that involve virtualization, cloud infrastructure, management and security, including integration with certain select 3rd party products.
  • Support virtualization technologies on VCE VXRack, Cisco UCS and Cisco FlashStack converged platforms.
  • Participate in system design improvements and performance enhancements.
  • Mentor and educate others within the organizations in the areas of your expertise.
  • Monitor and maintain all IT related equipment to ensure maximum availability to the organization.
  • Responsible for the creation, management and upkeep of Intranet FAQs, User guides and Knowledgebase, standards and build documents including DR plan for the enterprise.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and/or 5+ years of relevant product experience.
  • Proven experience in designing, deploying and managing VMware VRA/VRO deployments.
  • Designed, Deployed and Managed an enterprise private cloud.
  • 5+ years experience with VMWare products in a hands-on role.
  • 5+ years experience in software development lifecycle, TLM tools, and API integration.
  • 5+ years experience developing software or scripting with Java, Javascript, REST, JSON, Python and UNIX shell.
  • Experience with various configuration mangement tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet or SaltStack.
  • Experience with operating applications in a private cloud environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting network-related issues such as DNS, HTTP and TCP/IP.
  • Experience with Infoblox IMAP, F5 Big-IP Local Traffic Manager and Cisco ACI.
  • Experience with log aggirgations tools such as SumoLogic, Splunk or Elastic Stack.
  • VMware Certified Professional - Datacenter Virtualization (VCP-DCV) is a plus.
  • VMware Certified Professional - Network Virtualization (VCP-NV) is a plus.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and present to various levels of the organization from junior developers to senior management.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Knowledge of Cisco UCS, Nexus switching, MDS storage fabrics, Pure Storage Flash Arrays, NetApp and/or EMC storage frames
  • Experience with using cloud management portals such as vRealize Automation, OpenStack, AWS, Azure
  • Experience with manipulating RESTful APIs to programmatically automate manual tasks
  • Experience working within an Agile/scrum framework
  • Familiarity with the Cloud ecosystem, products and solutions
