White House Fellows Info Meeting April 23 (Atlanta)

Georgia, Atlanta 00000 Atlanta USA

Vacancy expired!

Join the White House Fellows and Atlanta-based entrepreneurs and VCs on April 23 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Atlanta Tech Village, where an extraordinary panel will lead us in a discussion about how government and startups can best work together.

Together we will explore the interface between government, tech and the startup community. We will discuss innovation, crowdfunding, blockchain, cybersecurity, privacy, net neutrality any and all issues found at the intersection of tech and government.

Is it time for government to regulate social media or break up the tech giants? Come and find out.

White House Fellows, our hosts on the 23rd, are known for the "deep dives" they take on matters of public policy. This evening's discussion promises to be lively and insightful. This event will be part geek, part policy wonk and all entrepreneur.

Larry Mock, managing director of Atlanta-based Navigation Capital (and a White House Fellow), is the event chair. Local media personality and entrepreneur Genevieve Bos will moderate the panel discussion.

Dara Albright (an Atlanta-based crowdfunding leader who helped get the JOBS Act passed); Linda Goetze (president of the Blockchain Chamber of Commerce); David Cummings (president of Atlanta Tech Village); and Christy Brown (technologist, entrepreneur and funder) will discuss their views on how government and the innovation community should or maybe shouldn't work together.

Admission is free but seating is limited to the first 175 who sign up. Pizza, beer, wine and soft drinks will be provided. There will be plenty of time for networking. There will also be opportunities for members of our audience to briefly describe projects they are working on.

This will be a great event for those who might be interested in becoming White House Fellows one day or who have a personal passion for good government.

About the White House Fellows

The White House Fellows program, started in 1964, gives promising young leaders a chance to work at the highest levels of government for a year. The program is uniquely nonpartisan. It is common for Democrats to serve in Republican administrations, and vice versa.

Members of the White House Fellows alumni group will there the night of the 23rd. They hope to meet "future leader types" from Atlanta who might one day go on to apply to become White House Fellows.

Members of the startup community those with the gumption to start companies from scratch are, almost by definition, leaders. The White House Fellows want to meet Atlanta's up-and-coming business leaders the night of the 23rd!

While the focus of our program will be on government, tech and startups, White House Fellows come from any and all walks of life law, medicine, business, finance, the military, entrepreneurship, academia, the arts, first responders, marketing, journalism, etc.

The fellowship is a paid position ($122,000 per year) and lasts 12 months. Fellows are assigned to work directly for top White House officials or cabinet secretaries.

The average age while serving as a White House Fellow is 34. It is common for prospective fellows to learn about the program in their early- to mid-twenties and apply later. Applicants are expected to show a track record of academic and professional achievement and a commitment to serving others. A keen interest in matters of public policy is generally the case.

The idea behind the program is to give "future leader types" an intense exposure to government, with the hope that those individuals selected will go on to "pay it forward" after graduating from the program.

Several White House Fellows alums there are now 790 who have served ten presidents over 53 years will tell their stories the evening of the 23rd. White House Fellows uniformly say their year in Washington was a life-changing experience.

Even if now is not your year to apply, if you think you might want to become a White House Fellow one day, this is a "don't miss" event.

And if you know someone you think might be interested in becoming a White House Fellow, even if that individual is not an entrepreneur, be sure to let him or her know about this rare gathering before all the tickets are gone (we expect to fill the room).
