This role is responsible for the overall direction, strength, profile, output, and excellence of the engineering teams responsible for the Autotrader & Kelley Blue Book Listings Marketplace, Service & Repair, Private Seller, Back-Office platforms and Reporting experiences. This role has a level of interdependencies and is responsible for establishing collaboration and interactions across Product, UX, Architecture, Engineering, and Cox Automotive. The Associate Vice President, Software Engineering will help the company achieve its growth targets through delivery of leading products that are innovative, timely, well-planned, cost effective and based on sound software development practices. Your Role:
  • Maintain personal technical foundation; staying current with technology concepts, paying close attention to industry trends, going outside of Cox Automotive and our industry to stay abreast of new technologies and trends.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional peers on overall planning, execution, and success of the software development lifecycle for the Autotrader & Kelley Blue Book product lines.
  • Hire, attract and retain high caliber talent utilizing a mixed talent model of onshore and offshore resources to manage capacity and meet the needs of the business.
  • Mentor and coach subordinate management staff to both improve overall department performance, develop succession planning and ensure leadership throughout the organization.
  • Continuously improve processes, specifically product engineering methodology, to reduce cycle times, improve deliverable quality, and establish a world-class team and performance.
  • Partner with Architecture to maintain, progress and establish application maturity and appropriate levels of resiliency to ensure quality systems and uptimes.
  • Partner with the Business and Product Management teams to refine the vision and strategy for our products and deliver on business expectations while anticipating future growth needs and work with the team to address.
  • Track and report on the key performance indicators related to maintenance, product development, platform performance and platform stability. Perform analysis and take action toward improvement.
  • Perform strategic systems planning and set the direction for the department through consistent leadership, motivation, and direction
  • Oversee budgeting of teams including hardware to support projects, staffing, facilities, and tools for software development.

Qualifications:
  • Experience managing a 75+ member team of engineering professionals
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Science/Technology based discipline. MBA or relevant Masters Degree preferred.
  • Background and experience in Consumer facing online experiences and Automotive a plus
  • 15+ years of experience with a variety of technology platforms, including migration and evolution of platforms; high availability applications and high-performance applications is a must.
  • 7+ years of technology and software engineering leadership experience in a complex and fast-paced business environment with exposure to a variety of technologies and solutions.
  • 5+ years advanced people management skills with the ability to lead, mentor and develop software engineering organizations.
  • Deep understanding of technology industry trends, emerging technologies, and software development best practices.
  • Experience managing a mixed talent model of onshore / offshore resources
  • Working ability to set project schedules and deliverables, manage budgets and contracts.
  • Proven expertise at motivating and managing technology leads in planning, developing and communicating industry-leading solutions.
  • Proven ability to inspire and maintain a positive atmosphere of innovation and success across a diverse team of engineers; ensuring that your team embodies the shared values of the company.
  • Comfortable defining the strategy and leading through change
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
