Classification TitleCustodian - Intermediate Division: Business & FinanceDepartment: Custodial Services Salary$11.96/ minimum - $14.36/midpointNature of WorkThis position is responsible for the general upkeep of UWG facilities to include cleaning of floors, classrooms, offices, restrooms, break rooms, and corridor areas. Tasks involve trash removal; cleaningand polishing of various furniture, table, and glass surfaces; sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, restore, wax, and buff various floor surfaces. Responsible for becoming familiar with all buildings and covers various buildings when custodial associates are absent from work. Responsible for special project work such as pressure washing, cleaning light fixtures or windows using a scissors lift or ladder. Assists Custodial Lead, Foreman and Superintendent in delivering custodial supplies to buildings, overseeing and directing custodial associates in everyday tasks as requested.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or GED equivalent required and 1 year or more custodial experience in an institutional, industrial or commercial setting. Must be able to follow and communicate instructions. Must be able to work special events (varied hours and weekends) with minimal supervision and determine the necessary tasks to be performed. Ability to operate various cleaning equipment such as buffers, extractors, pressure washer, walk behind, scissor lifts and ride-on scrubbers. Must be able to assist Custodial Lead and Superintendent with training and administrative duties. A pre-employment drug screen is required.Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with operating a computer is preferred.Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:This position will require frequently moving about the campus to access buildings, storage areas and offices. Constantly operating productivity equipment such as floor equipment and other cleaning materials. Frequently positioning self to maintain or clean lower areas such as under desks, floors, cabinets. Must be able to detect and identify unsatisfactory areas which will require attention/service. Frequently moving equipment and/or supplies up to 50 pounds across campus to various buildings, event needs and cleaning assignments. Occasionally ascend/descend ladders to service evaluated areas or objects.
