Responsibilities

The world is in the midst of a digital transformation, and so is State Farm. It's an evolution in connectedness as people and as systems, and the key is how we connect - easily, valuably, and securely. The "Don't Worry, Be API" Application Integration team is responsible for just that, and we need a talented Software Developer Engineer to be a part of that success. We're currently establishing an Enterprise API Catalog with integrations across multiple platforms, both on-prem and in the public cloud. Many of State Farm's current solutions have not been able to make the leap to a loosely coupled integration solutions for multiple reasons. As an Engineer, you'll be empowered to help at an enterprise level with creating patterns and coding samples, as well as at a micro-level by partnering with individual teams on the design and development of their application integration solutions. But wait, there's more Application Integration isn't just APIs for us. Event Driven Architecture is gaining steam in the industry as an Application Integration solution, and we need to help teams understand when, where, and how to use it. The key is providing the right solutions, right now!

Qualifications

  • Recognized as an expert on modern application integration related practices/technologies/capabilities (e.g. APIs, EDA, Lambdas)
  • Deep technical understanding of application integration practices, principles, troubleshooting, problem resolution.
  • Ability to understand the security and integration design and requirements of enterprise end-to-end applications
  • Practical experience with agile methodologies and continuous integration environments
  • Participates in the full software development cycle including coding, testing, implementation, support and sunset.
  • Utilizes agile software development practices, coding, data and testing standards, code reviews, source code management, continuous delivery and software architecture.
  • Possesses an understanding of User Experience practices to improve usability and interaction between the customer and product
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical knowledge effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Strong software development skills, preferably with React, Node.js, Java, and TypeScript
  • Use and understanding of container technologies (Docker, Helm, Kubernetes, EKS/ECS, etc.)

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with IaC solutions (e.g. Terraform, Cloud Formation)
  • Experience with Event Driven Architecture Solutions (e.g. Kafka, Kinesis, SNS, SQS)
  • Significant experience with API Development and Management
  • Experience defining security of Application Integration Patterns for both API and EDA solutions
  • Proven experience modernizing Legacy Integration solutions
