The "Maneuver Center of Excellence" is located 100 miles south of Atlanta and is adjacent to Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training. Public transportation and free parking is available.ResponsibilitiesPerform a variety of field-level maintenance for tactical training base equipment.Assist mechanics in disassembly, repair, assembly, or replacement of major components and assemblies such as engines, transmissions, and/or differentials.Making adjustments and settings to tune-up engines, set timing, adjust brakes, or other adjustable parts using common hand or power tools and a variety of testing equipment, e.g.; feeler gauges, circuit testers hand held diagnostic equipment.Read and interpret parts manuals and technical repair manuals.Select tools and completes work ensuring settings and adjustments of parts meet specifications and requirements prescribed in technical repair manuals.Perform troubleshooting and diagnostic test on wheeled vehicles.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsWho May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Automotive Worker without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common automotive mechanic tasks. I can perform maintenance on some wheeled motor vehicles. I determine when parts should be cleaned and reinstalled or replaced with standard parts. I use basic tools as an automotive mechanic such as wrenches, sockets, torque wrenches, plies, brake tools and screwdrivers. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Physical Effort Duties require standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, such as overhead or in hard-to-reach or cramped locations for extended periods of time. Frequent lifting of parts and equipment weighing up to 18 kilograms; 40 pounds is required and occasionally may lift and carry heavier items with assistance or with mechanical devices weighing up to 23 kilograms; 50 pounds. Working Conditions Work may be done inside a shop or outside exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Exposure to drafts, vehicle fumes, dirt, grease, and dust is common. May stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time, crawl under vehicles, and may be required to work under vehicles exposed to dampness, heat or cold. Vehicle fluids, battery acids and solvents may cause burns or skin irritation.
