The

Manufacturing Engineer - Bike Assembly supports the bicycle assembly lines in developing processes, tools, and documentation for operational excellence performance levels. This role will lead problem-solving initiatives and drive continuous improvement tools and techniques in line with performance and financial budget expectations.

A few (but not all) of the key responsibilities include:
  • Develop methods, standards, tooling, and techniques to continuously reduce the time and effort involved in the assembly process and equipment
  • Update and maintain equipment drawings for production and equipment, including layouts
  • Update and maintains assembly process operational standards in an MES (Manufacturing Execution System) environment
  • Develop engineering solutions for repetitive process/equipment failures
  • Assist in the identification of training requirements and may provide the training for assembly skill level improvements
  • Partner with maintenance technicians to review, recommend and coordinate maintenance activities such as TPM, PM, Proactive Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance Programs to prevent assembly equipment failures and maximize uptime
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives such as kaizen, Gemba walks, and lean manufacturing tools training
  • Modify manufacturing processes for safety improvement, quality improvement, cost reduction, or design changes
  • Achieve financial objectives by assisting in the preparation of budgets, scheduling expenditures, managing project budgets and supporting budget deviations analysis and corrective actions implementation

Education & Experience RequirementsThis role typically requires at least 5 years of experience in assembly, manufacturing engineering, and automation.

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical and/or Industrial Engineering or a related field
  • Solid continuous improvement experience leading kaizens and lean manufacturing tools implementation; certification is a plus
  • Comfortable with a fast-paced manufacturing environment with high volume/mid mix
  • Experience with bicycle assembly and/or skilled bicycle mechanic (previous bike shop experience a plus) with in-depth knowledge of bicycle components and their function is highly preferred
  • Proficient in SolidWorks 3D and 2D CAD software with the capability to create assemblies
  • Familiar with a new assembly line set up and launch
  • Familiar with quality tools (8D, Paretos, Cause-and-Effect Diagram (Ishikawa), Control Charts, etc.)
  • SAP and MES (Manufacturing Execution System) experience
