CALYX Engineers and Consultants, an NV5 company, is seeking a full-time senior historian for our Roswell, GA office. This position will complete various types of reports, such as Historic Resource Survey Reports, Assessment of Effects, mitigation materials, context studies, etc for a variety of clients in the transportation, energy, land development, and municipal sectors. The historian will conduct research and field surveys to assist in the identification and evaluation of historic properties. Also, this individual will complete project tasks within deadlines and budgets. The most frequent and essential work activities include:Conduct Section 106 assessments and complete technical reports for infrastructure projects, as required, including fieldwork/survey, historic resource identification and evaluation, and project effects assessment. Evaluations would include field assessments, use of background documentation (i.e. property records and archival research, county surveys, maps, site files, context studies, etc.), and photography. Complete or assist with additional Section 106 tasks, including leading or assisting with consultation (i.e. supporting project consulting parties' meetings or public meetings, etc.) and project mitigation (i.e. completing written sections of HABS/HAER documentation, etc.).Complete other cultural resources/historic architecture tasks as needed; other tasks could include assistance with city or county surveys, historic preservation plans, design guidelines, National Register nominations, historic structure reports, context studies, etc.Manage the performance of individual projects and coordinate with a variety of colleagues, clients, agencies, and the public.On an as-needed basis, assist with completion of NEPA documentation, including Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, and Environmental Impact Statements; assistance will typically include cultural resources-related tasks but may include other tasks as required.Maintain effective and successful communication with project team, co-workers, and clients.Assist in business development and marketing efforts.Prerequisites for employment include:Bachelor's Degree in history, historic preservation, architectural history, or a closely related field required; Master's Degree in same related fields preferredMeet Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications for Historian or Architectural Historian (36 Code of Federal Regulations, CFR Part 61)Minimum of 10 years of experience performing all phases of Section 106 assessments including consultation, fieldwork /survey, historic resource identification and evaluation, assessment of effects, and mitigationExperience with Microsoft office programs; GIS skills a plusGDOT, NCDOT, SCDOT, and energy-related (pipelines, transmission lines, etc.) experience preferredExperience in scheduling and budgeting projects related to cultural resources a plusMust possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license prior to employment-preferredWork environment and physical demand of this positionThe characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position.
