Senior SQL Engineer | Atlanta, GAThis is a direct hire position in Atlanta, GAJob Description:Design, configure, and manage databases to ensure the integrity, security, and accessibility of the organization’s data. Design and implement approaches to improve database performance, capacity, and scalability. Runs and compiles reports, metrics, and insights using MS-SQL add-ons (SSAS, SSRS, etc.) and third party tools to ensure database health. Design, implement, and manage ETL processes using various technologies (iPaaS, SSIS, MS-SQL views and stored procedures, etc.) across multiple application platforms. Manage large and/or complex database, reporting, and data management projects and tasks with limited oversight. Assist with and drive system, database, and technological advances as warranted. Coach and mentor junior level professionals.Activities:Database Administration Duties:
  • Design, configure, and manage databases
  • Analyze and optimize database access, storage and usage
  • Enhance database access and scalability according to business needs
  • Manage database administration tasks for SQLServer databases (current and previous versions)
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlock issues, connectivity issues, and security issues
  • Manage and perform database upgrades as warranted to ensure support and security compliance
  • Configure database parameters and data repository, data dictionaries, data replication, and warehousing requirements
  • Manage database security and access in accordance with SOX compliance procedures
  • Partner with Technical Services team to ensure proper backup and restore strategies are in place
  • Prepare data recovery plan and follow database backup and restore strategy when needed
Data and Reporting Management:
  • Design, write, and manage ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes across multiple application platforms including fully hosted and on-premise solutions
  • Design, write and troubleshoot SQL code (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, and constraints)
  • Develop and manage ETL toolsets (iPaaS, SSIS, etc.) to ensure technology advancements are understood and utilized where appropriate
  • Understand business and system requirements to ensure ETL solution meets the needs of the user
  • Ensure adherence to key compliance procedures for data movement between systems
  • Develop and maintain secure data sharing techniques and methodologies with external vendors
  • Review queries for performance issues and makes changes as needed
  • Participate in the design and development of new or existing reporting systems
  • Identify tasks that can be automated when possible and appropriate
  • Design, write, and manage reports as needed
  • Support the user community in the use of business intelligence tools (SSRS, PowerBI, etc.) to query files and databases for reports
  • Monitor enterprise wide query and reporting tools to ensure interoperability and security of front-end components
  • Manage database replication and data warehousing for reporting on non-transactional production databases
System Management Duties:
  • Develop understanding of business processes being supported
  • Direct the design, development and maintenance of reports, interfaces, import and export processes for web and client/server applications
  • Provide detailed analysis of business systems data as needed
  • Assist users and data owners in resolving issues
  • Participate in the replacement of systems or system upgrades as they become necessary or available.
  • Direct the development, testing and implementation of technical process improvements
  • Gather, develop and maintain documentation on system interfaces
  • Maintain a development environment for business systems
  • Responsible for the reliable and functional day-to-day performance of business systems.
  • Oversee the administration of application servers, database servers, terminal servers, and Citrix servers related to business systems
  • Identify and resolve system and process problems and identify processes that can improve or further leverage these systems
  • Coordinate and direct internal and external resources as needed
  • Manage vendor delivery of contracted work
  • Provide guidance and instruction to junior staff members
Compliance and Documentation Duties:
  • Ensure compliance with departmental, corporate and governmental policies and procedures
  • Participate in regular audits of key SOX controls
  • Coordinate with data owners and auditors to ensure policies and procedures are being adhered to
  • Gather and maintain documentation that has been identified as critical to maintaining SOX compliance for your area of responsibility
  • Revise policies as determined by internal or external auditors
  • Provide data or documentation to internal or external auditors as requested
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science or related field (desired)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in database management
  • Extensive knowledge in writing and supporting ETL processes across multiple platforms and differing technologies
  • Advanced skills using database query and management tools (Query analyzer, etc.) and Structured Query Language (SQL) (MS SQL Server preferred)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of SQL development skills including stored procedures, functions, tables, indexes, triggers, views, etc.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse user base in a competent and professional manner
  • Ability to manage system upgrades across a broad geographical base
  • Experience with technical system quality assurance (QA) and testing methodologies
  • Problem resolution skills
  • Project and time management skills
  • Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
