Position Duties: Establish contacts in Japan and market event ideas to potential contacts in Japan. Work to develop other events desired by the Japanese sports industry. Plan the scope of events, including creating, managing, supervising, organizing and coordinating events to entice Japanese sports industry groups to come to Hawaii for training, competition, exhibitions, or other events of interest. Coordinate event services, such as venues and transportation, including airline transportation, ground transportation, and hotel or lodging reservations for event customers. Arrange and coordinate the moving and storage of equipment and freight to the various venues. Monitor event activities to ensure attendees are satisfied and promote and maintain positive customer service and relationships with clients, vendors, and agents. Review and negotiate event contracts in Japanese language.
Position qualifications: Must have a high school diploma. Must have 36 months of experience in a combination of: (1) experience organizing special events as a meeting, convention or event planner; and (2) experience recruiting corporations to sponsor events. Must have experience in organizing trips for groups of 50 people or
more, including organizing airline transportation, hotel accommodations, and ground transportation. Must have experience in negotiating contracts. Must be able to speak, read, and write Japanese fluently because the target market of this position is the Japanese sports industry and requires extensive oral and written communication with Japanese clients.
Telecommuting from any location within the City and County of Honolulu is an option for this position.
