Coupled with decades of radiological and nuclear materials expertise, advanced computing and threat analysis capabilities, and a broad fundamental science base, we are identifying and countering emerging threats that have significant impact at home and around the globe.ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will lead the assessment and design of cybersecurity architectures, to include managing high-value and critical enterprise-level systems and networks. These can include Federal, state, and local systems as well as commercial systems. The incumbent will have experience in assessing the security posture of FRCS’ and ICS’, designing mitigations for security vulnerabilities and obtaining approvals/authority to operate. The incumbent will lead and conduct site surveys, assisting sponsor sites in identifying cybersecurity needs, research needs, technical feasibility to find optimal solutions for unique network structures and environments. The incumbent will support sponsors in identifying their system requirements and decompose these into achievable deliverables. The incumbent will be comfortable with cross disciplinary teams, to include members from other national laboratories and potential commercial partners. The incumbent should be comfortable developing presentation material to communicate project status and challenges to PNNL and sponsor program management.

Serves as the technical project lead for cybersecurity projects, ensuring successful project execution and timely delivery.

Decomposes project requirements into actionable project tasks, aligning with team goals and project milestones.

Assigns specific project tasks to team members, ensuring alignment with expertise in cyber hunt activities and cyber risk assessment for energy systems and ICS.

Leads cyber risk assessment and mitigation strategies for industrial control systems (ICS) and energy systems, with a focus on critical infrastructure.

Designs and implements networking solutions to mitigate cybersecurity risks in TCP/IP components of energy systems.

Mentors junior staff, providing guidance in cybersecurity methodologies, project management, and technical skills development.

Identifies research opportunities during site reviews, contributing to the advancement of cybersecurity solutions for energy systems.

Ensures compliance with NIST SP 800 series standards, translating guidelines into actionable project strategies.

Conducts technical presentations to program management and laboratory leadership, providing updates on project status, challenges, and achievements.

Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to advance cybersecurity measures and innovations in critical energy infrastructure.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant experience -OR-

MS/MA and 5+ years of relevant experience -OR-

PhD with 3+ year of relevant experience

Defensive Cyber Operations

Zero Trust framework for Facility Related Control Systems (FRCS) and Industrial Control Systems (ICS)

DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF)

DoD platforms such as eMASS and MOSAICS

NIST SP 800-82, securing ICS

Validation of RMF control implementation on FRCS

Federal and DoD specific cyber incident response procedures

Demonstrate interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with clients and laboratory staff
