Goals and Objectives:

Support successful operation and maintenance of the Makena Golf & Beach Club course.

Responsibilities:

Properly mix and apply chemicals and fertilizers as assigned using only products authorized including those requiring licensing.

Comply with all product labels and Safety Data Sheet information, maintains complete, current and accurate SDS within the designated locations.

Ensure that all application equipment is cleaned at end of day, greased and in proper working condition at all times.

Keep all storage areas clean, properly arranged and all rubbish is empties at end of day. No storage of pesticides in carts, tractors or sprayers unless authorized by Landscape Manager.

Safely and efficiently utilizes all spray equipment, tractors and fertilizer spreaders.

Must be able to safely operate golf carts, utility vehicles and company vehicles as needed.

Routinely performs safety inspections on all spraying equipment and fertilizer spreaders.

Maintain accurate records and reports in designated binder of all fertilizers; pesticides and plant protectants applied each day.

Ensure that chemicals and fertilizer storage areas are secured when not in area.

Complete required forms for all applications of restricted pesticides.

Notify Landscape Manager when inventory is low, and order as needed.

Maintain, add fuel and lubricant spray in relation to equipment specifications.

Report equipment breakdowns and malfunctions to the Equipment Manager and Landscape Manager.

Follow safe work practices, including the correct lifting techniques, use of equipment and safe application of fertilizers, pesticides and plant protectants. Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when applying pesticides or fertilizers.

Must be able to calculate the proper amount of product needed in fluid ounces, pints, quarts, gallons and/or pounds for application.

Demonstrates precise measuring, weighing and mathematical computation.

May be asked to perform duties of Greenskeeper and/or Irrigation Mechanic in the event of inclement weather, equipment issues or activities on property that would inhibit the ability to perform pesticide applications.

Maintains a clean and safe work environment.

Report to work on time and as scheduled.

Must be able to stay later than usual on some occasions to complete certain applications.

Complete all other duties as assigned.

Competencies for Success in the Role:

Demonstrates respect for and appreciation of Hawaiian values, history and culture, understanding its implication in ones work, in fostering meaningful relationships, and in embracing the community served.

Minimum of 2 years experience with pesticide application for landscaping and/or golf courses.

Must posses and maintain all times a valid state of Hawaii Certificate for Commercial Applicators of Restricted Pesticides Category 3 Ornamental and Turf Pest Control.

Passed Pulmonary Test for Respirators.

Ability to operate golf course machinery.

Ability to operate various vehicles.

Ability to follow oral and written directions in English.

Ability to work in a team environment and operate in a safe, professional manner at all times.

Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holiday and a shift greater than eight (8) hours in length.

Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than four (4) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
