Self-Help Center Legal Navigator

If so, Legal Aids AmeriCorps Self-Help Center Legal Navigator positions may be the right opportunity for you.

The Mission: AmeriCorps Self-Help Center Navigators assist unrepresented individuals navigating the civil justice system at courthouse based self-help centers. Members work alongside private attorneys volunteering their time at the self-help centers and assist in recruitment and scheduling. Members also prepare self-help materials and assist with client services in Legal Aid offices.

The Commitment: At least 450 hours of service over one-year starting September 1, 2019 (about 10-12 per week). Must be available during self-help center hours. (Maui: Thursdays and Mondays 8:30 “ 1:30)

The Benefits: Annual living allowance of $6141.00 (for 12 full months of service) and a $1612.43 education award. Members over 60 years of age can transfer education award to certain family members.

We are looking for individuals who have good people skills, an interest in helping others, good computer skills, an interest in the law, and who excel working as part of a team. Experience working with disadvantaged individuals and/or legal experience is helpful but not required. Training is provided. This position is uniquely suited for students or recent graduates considering a career in law. While the benefits are modest, the experience is tremendous.
