Development Assistant
An efficient and organized team player, the Development Assistant helps to ensure that the Aloha Council has the resources it needs to provide Boy Scouts of America programstoday and in the futureto more than 12,000 Scouts in the Council's service area. The Development Assistant helps to execute the Aloha Council's annual fund development plan to achieve fundraising targets set by the Board of Directors and the Director of Development.
The key duties of this position are:
Database
Processes gift pledges and payments in the Blackbaud database
Sends gift reminders, thank-you letters, and tax acknowledgments
Generates weekly, monthly, and annual contribution reports
Serves as the overall fundraising database manager
All other database duties as assigned
Events
Provides administrative and logistical support for the Aloha Council's six major fundraising events: Eagle Banquet, Onizuka Day of Exploration, Distinguished Citizen Dinner, Tee-Up for Scouting, Sportsman's Challenge, and the Friends of Scouting Luncheon.
Drafts the agenda for event committee meetings and takes detailed minutes at each meeting
Supports the creation and maintenance of prospect lists for each event
Assists with securing event sponsorships
Communicates with sponsors about event details
All other events support duties as assigned
Grants
Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the Boy Scouts of America programs, as well as Aloha Council operations, to be able to identify local and national grant opportunities
Assists with drafting, editing, and submitting grant proposals
Monitors the opening and closing dates for grants and ensures that these are logged in the Development Calendar
Stays current with trends and opportunities in the local and national grant-making sphere
All other grants-related duties as assigned
Development Research
Conducts research on annual fund, major gift, event and capital campaign prospects and inputs this information in Blackbaud
Analyzes research to make recommendations on which prospects should be cultivated
Utilizes WealthPoint and open-source records to qualify prospects
Updates constituent records in Blackbaud
All other development research duties as assigned
Marketing
Coordinates and distributes weekly email newsletter through MailChimp
Creates and maintains a six-month content calendar for Aloha Council BSA Facebook and Instagram pages
Programs social media posts using a social media scheduler
Creates and maintains a six-month subject calendar for the semi-monthly Midweek article and ensures representation from across the Aloha Council
Assists with maintaining the website
All other marketing duties as assigned
Essential Qualifications:
Strong writing, editing, and speaking skills
Strong critical and analytical thinking skills
Ability to accurately and efficiently input data into Blackbaud database
Ability to prioritize a variable workload
Ability to work both independently and in teams with minimal supervision
Ability to follow written and spoken instructions
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to comfortably interact and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders
Superlative attention to detail
Previous experience coordinating and executing events
Available to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays in support of events if necessary
Valid Driver's License
Intermediate-level competency in all Microsoft Office applications
Belief in the Scouting program
Required Background:
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a non-profit setting
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred
