Looking for 1 special person that has nurturing qualities, compassionate and patience for our island youth. We are a culturally & farm based program, so your experience will be a plus for us!

Must be available to work various hours:

Tuesday through Friday between 12pm and 6:30pm, Saturdays 7:30am - 5pm

School breaks and Summer hours; Monday - Friday 7:30am - 5pm

Ho`oulu Na Kamali`i is a place-based educational youth program hands-on learning and project-based learning, focusing on education, local heritage, culture and healthy living. Allowing the youth to learn freely, giving them the encouragement to increase their academic skills, in addition to their social skills and cultural knowledge, the youth will become better learners, improving their quality of life.

Our Mission;

To empower the youth to become respectful, nurturing leaders and make our island home of Maui, a more secure place to live, be creating a sustainable island; agriculturally, economically, socially, ad politically, one community at a time. We envision our participants creating a strong family and community support system by forming healthy relationships.

Qualifications

Graduates degree preferred, but not required.

Must have at least 2 years' experience working with children, adolescents and their families in an educational or human services environment; leading, teaching or coordinating a youth program and/or classroom.

Prior experience working with diverse populations preferred.

Passionate about youth, culturally responsive, show initiative and be adaptive to the work and program environment.

Sensitivity in relating to persons of varying backgrounds and demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups of people possessing various strengths, aptitudes and abilities.

Ability to perform job responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.

Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a clean driving record that meets the underwriting criteria of the Agency's insurance company.

Must be a Maui resident or have the knowledge and understanding of our island and its culture.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Social media savvy: someone with a good knowledge and understanding of social media, a person who is adept full knowledge and keep new updates about social media network.

Farming and gardening experience; basic sustainability.

Culturally diverse knowledge and experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills, critical reasoning, practical and creative problem-solving abilities.

Skilled in developing and facilitating collaborative relationships.

Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Excellent Microsoft Office skills; ability to collect and maintain information as needed.

Demonstrated experience in project management.

Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administration (20%)

Develop and update monthly program website & social media sites.

Assist in program planning for youth and their families.

Maintain and update student profiles.

Assist in program reporting (student profiles, volunteer feedback, etc.)

Communicate with families (phone, email, newsletter) on a weekly, monthly or periodic basis to discuss topics pertaining to youth's personal improvement.

Assist Program Director to keep program records and evaluate program outcomes, making changes as

needed based on evaluation data.

Program (80%)

Assist with supervising youth in after school programs, school breaks, summer breaks and special events (elementary, middle school and high school).

Assist and facilitate program curriculum and activities for youth and their families.

Assist and support youth with homework assignments and projects.

Work one-on-one or in small groups to improve youth engagement.

Facilitate youth-led service learning projects.

Track student participation and monitor growth and development.

Recruit youth and volunteers to increase program capacity.

Document youth, family and volunteer performance and development.

Attend required trainings.

Attend staff meetings and program planning dates.

Maintain a clean, safe environment.

Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants.

Be flexible and able to respond to change.

Working Conditions

In addition to normal working hours, this position requires you to work outside of normal work hours during evenings and occasionally weekends. Traveling to and from program locations daily.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to weather conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift, up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Must be able to work in the outdoors for long periods of time.

Must be able to drive a passenger van for long periods of time.

Requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
