We might pay you a $1 a mile, but most of the time less, more like 80cents a mile or if you live in LA 60 cents a mile.
The Automobile Association of America AAA reports that it costs 60 cents per mile to operate a vehicle and that's on the mainland. (I just looked it up)
So even if we pay you $1 per mile for every mile you have passengers in your car, you still have to get back to where you started. So that $1 mile you just got is really more like 50 cents per mile. And even if you could operate your car at say 15 cents a mile cheaper than the national average you would still make 5 cents per mile. But no worries you can make it up on volume!
But lets just say for a goof you actually make a few cents a mile for a ride to Princeville. We have a final surprise for you. At the end of the year, we will send you, the state of Hawaii, and the IRS a 1099 tax form. And you will have to pay taxes on your hard lost money. The state of Hawaii wants there 4.75% excise tax on every dollar they paid you.(Don't pay they will put a lien on your car) Not to mention the hassle of reporting your profit and loss, hope you save your receipts.
