Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.ResponsibilitiesServe as a boiler plant operator in a high pressure steam power plant.Performs the full range of servicing and mechanical repair duties required in the operation of oil-fired boilers and auxiliary equipmentRepair, troubleshoot and maintain complicated steam boilers and auxiliary heating units, equipment and systems (e.g. feed water, fuel, condensation, and circulation pumps, compressors, etc.) in the boiler plant.Install, repair, maintain and replace steam lines, valves, radiators, storage and condensate tanks, steam traps, control valves, fittings, and expansion joints.Dismantle components and locates defects.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsWho May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Utility System Repairer (Boiler Plant Operator) without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform difficult and complex boiler and heating plan and system repairs. Ability to perform common overhaul of oil-fired installations; adjust oil feeds and air draft; dismantled, repair and reassemble units such as pumps and compressors - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen OutAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Handles and carries tools, equipment and testing devices that seldom weighs over 50 pounds. Work is performed at sites where most of the equipment can be reached from the floor or ladder although some parts of the system are in hard-to-reach areas. Employee is required to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions often for extended periods of time. Working Conditions: Most work is performed indoors, often in cramped areas with low overheads. Work is performed on concrete floors, where there is exposure to boiler bursts, carbon monoxide poisoning, high temperature, exposure to gas, smoke, fumes and burns from scalding water, and contact with heated parts of the system. Employee is subject to cuts, bruises, broken bones and other injuries from falls or the use of hand tools. Employee must wear protective clothing and devices such as goggles, hard hats, asbestos gloves, safety shoes, and ear protection.EducationAdditional InformationMale applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Two year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. You may claim military spouse preference (MSP). If a MSP applicant is determined best qualified and selected, placement must be at the full performance level for priority consideration.
