OVERVIEW:

Wild Blooms Nature School is located on a 1.5-acre urban farm setting in Eagle, Idaho. Wild Blooms mission is to connect young children to the natural world through hands-on experiences in the outdoors, gardening, and animal care, building a foundation for future learning and stewardship.

2019-2020 is our pilot program with 1 classroom of 6 kids. The property is undergoing renovations and we are in the middle of the Conditional Use Permit process with the City of Eagle. We will increase our program offerings in Summer or Fall 2020 to 3 classrooms of 6-8 kids.

A key aspect of our program is the relationship between the Teacher/Facilitator and children. Please only apply if you are seeking a long-term position, through the school year, providing the children consistency.

TEACHER POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for facilitating age-appropriate, nature-based, emergent/child-led curriculum for 3 to 5 year old children in an outdoor, nature setting.

At WBNS children and teachers spend a minimum of 2 hours outside daily, in all seasons and in all kinds of weather conditions.

Teachers are expected to develop their lesson plans with the understanding that anything that can be done inside can be done outside.

DUTIES:

Facilitate daily activities: arrival, welcome circle and songs, snacks, garden time, animal care (chickens, bunnies etc), art, lunch, storytelling, and dismissal etc.

Guide young children through inquiry-based learning experiences related to topics/fields including agriculture, natural resources, plant and animal science, and environmental education

Be prepared to facilitate messy and risky play.

Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and verbal progress reports at drop off and pick up.

Attend occasional parent outreach events, community celebrations, and get-togethers. Attend Open Houses 4 Saturdays of the school year.

REQUIREMENTS:

Our main interest is in someone who has a passion for the outdoors (in all weather) and is also passionate about nature-based education.

Must be comfortable spending extended time outdoors, caring for animals, and engaging with nature (getting messy and dirty indoors and out).

Excited to get dirty and laugh a lot while teaching outside even in Boises cold winters.

Committed to stay the entire school year (or hopefully longer) as building a relationship with the children is vital to the learning environment

Must be able to clear full background check.

Currently hold child and adult CPR/first aid or willingness to become certified.

Able to work occasional weekends and evenings (open houses, family-teacher conferences, etc.).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis, including loading and unloading boxes of classroom materials, pulling a wagon, animal care, moving sticks and logs, and moving children.

Must be physically able to aid in toileting (bending, carrying).

Ability to walk on uneven terrain, handle small animals, and function outside for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.

HOURS:

This position is part-time. We will also be hiring for Substitute/Temporary/On-call status teachers.

Initial hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 12pm. Days will expand to Monday through Friday as enrollment dictates.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

This is a non-exempt, hourly position. $10-14 per hour depending on experience
