Sr. Linux Systems Engineer

Position Description Summary This role is charged with engineering, administration, and support of our global Linux computing infrastructure, including but high-performance computing clusters, storage area network solutions and all connected devices. Help analyze business requirements to define effective and efficient IT solutions and execute projects to deliver them. Provide leadership and recommend overall infrastructure improvements. Deliver seamless IT 7x24 operations working closely with global and site IT teams. Roles and Responsibilities
  • Builds, maintains, and supports complex Linux/UNIX operating systems in a distributed enterprise environment
  • Administers production, test and development environments across sites and applications
  • Sets up, configures and supports corporate NAS and SAN based storage systems (NetApp, EMC, Nimble etc.) and Corporate VMWare cluster
  • Monitors systems using tools such as Nagios and Cacti
  • Collaborates with internal clients (both business and technical) in support of technology requirements
  • Delivers improvements via projects and maintenance using project and change management procedures/principles
  • Participates in 24x7 on-call rotation for research and resolution of production system problems and responds to escalated support requests
  • Provides training, support and guidance to other administrators and technical support teams
  • Creates and maintains accurate, up-to-date documentation
  • Act as back up to ISSM role
  • Knowledge of Risk Management, vulnerabilities, etc
  • Recommends improvements for the stability, security, efficiency and scalability of systems
  • Ensures business continuity provisions are configured, available and tested
  • Provides technical leadership
Education/Experience/Skills
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux systems (CentOS, Red Hat & Solaris)
    • High-Performance Computing cluster
    • Kernel Tuning
    • Network Routing on Linux systems (iptables, firewall-cmd)
    • iSCSI & Mutlipathing
    • OS support for Oracle/MySQL databases, and related solutions
    • Linux LVM and File System Types(xfs, ext4, etc)
  • Knowledge and administration of authentication systems - NIS, LDAP, AD, Kerberos & IDM
  • Working knowledge of shell scripting (ksh, csh, bash and perl)
  • Transfer protocols, scp, sftp, ftp, FileCatalyst, Aspera
  • Proficiency with Network Storage including NAS and SAN storage.
  • Proficiency with networking (Cisco, Mellanox & Infiniband)
  • Ability to perform multiple roles as part of the IT team including but not limited to: systems administration, project management, business technology consultant, automation engineer, and more
  • Strong troubleshooting ability
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing justifications, training users in complex topics, writing status reports, documenting procedures, and interacting positively with other staff and management
  • Must be capable of independent problem-solving and self-direction
  • Ability to handle competing priorities and deliver solutions in a timely manner
  • Capability to easily change priorities as the business dictates
  • Knowledge of business continuity planning/disaster recovery processes, procedures and best practices a plus
  • Knowledge and experience in IT infrastructure technologies and service models (such as ITIL & ISO), emerging trends and security controls
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a combination of infrastructure, networking roles.
  • University degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • US Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain US Security clearance required. Existing US Security clearance a plus
  • Security+ certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of OpenScap a plus

Location and Travel
  • Office-based role located in Boise ID.
  • Travel up to 15% domestic and international
