Mechanic

Kasper Land and Cattle has a large fleet of differing types of heavy equipment including:

1. 11 trucks (3 feedtrucks, 8 manure and silage trucks)

2. 3 forage harvesters

3. 8+ tractors

4. 7+ loaders

5. 1 excavator

6. 14+ pickups and small vehicles

7. Farm implements and ATVs

The person in the mechanic position will be in charge of all shop related projects. That person will directly perform regular schedule maintenance on all rolling equipment, including regular oil changes and inspections. They will keep up to date and accurate records of all service work performed and maintain an accurate list of maintenance supplies needed such as filters. They will keep the shop are clean and they will ensure that all the shop supplies and spare parts inventory is maintained as desired. The mechanic will order all the parts needed for the repairs he is working on. From time to time they will likely have an assistant to help stay on the maintenance schedule.

The mechanic will be able to handle all incidental repairs to ensure that all mechanical needs of daily dairy operations are met. A person successful in this role will be able to accurately anticipate what will be needed on hand to ensure smooth operations and limit emergent breakdowns to rare occurrence. This may require overtime and staying late from time to time. The same will be expected during planting and harvest operations.

The mechanic will be available in case of an operational emergency anywhere in the operation. The mechanic will also be expected to mobilize and go to equipment needing repair at either facility or in the field or stranded on the side of the road. No vacation time will be allowed during peak farming operations which is typically mid April to the end of May and late August to early November.

The mechanic will also be given shop projects depending on their capabilities. The mechanic must have the following skills:

1. Engine diagnostics and repair

2. Clutch repair

3. Transmission repair

4. Differential and axle repair

5. Air and hydraulic brakes

6. Maintaining trucks to DOT specifications

7. Hydraulic systems

8. Experience on farm equipment

9. Welding and basic fabrication

10. Electrical diagnostics and repair

11. Run parts if needed
