Assistant editor for educational writing (Boise)

Idaho, Boise 00000 Boise USA

Vacancy expired!

The World Scholars Cup (www.scholarscup.org) is seeking a part-time, temporary assistant editor for educational and assessment materials.

Core duties include

Tracking schedules and nudging writers and editors toward meeting deadlines

Proofing and formatting finished materials

Tracking payments

Completing ad hoc writing assignments as time and talent permit

Editing tests, quizzes, and other assessment materials as time and talent permit

You will be working primarily with the Director of Curriculum (based in Boise) and Editor-in-Chief (based in Singapore).

You are, in no particular order:

Occasionally overdressed, always overeducated, and happy to be slightly underemployed so you have time for your own projects (raising children, pursuing a Ph.D. in underwater basket weaving, perfecting your translation of the Voynich manuscript, working on your six-pack)

Not going to mention lobsters

Willing to show up at our office in downtown Boise sometimes, although the work can mostly be (and generally is) done from home

Mildly enraged by bad kerning

A polymath (but not a pain in the )

Comfortable working with a geographically and demographically diverse team

Familiar with academic competitions

Aware of general trends in pop culture

Enthusiastic about acquiring new knowledge

Fond of aggressively nerdy high school students

To apply, please send an email in which you

1. Introduce yourself (educational and employment background, hobbies, Hobby-Horses)

2. Include a writing sample, preferably non-academic

3. Identify as many literary, cultural, and musical allusions as you can in this job posting

4. Identify any stylistic errors, infelicities, or points of contention in this job posting

Resumes optional.

This job will start immediately and continue at least through September, with the potential to return earlier next summer. It is thus perfect for people on an academic schedule, although we will gladly hire anyone with this odd combination of skills and needs.

Pay is $15-$20/ hr, up to 20 hrs/ week, no benefits at this time.
