Columbia Pulp is looking for a Process Chemist / Engineer to join our team! The Process Chemist / Engineer is responsible for providing technical guidance and process operation support in the pulp mill operation. Coordinates and performs chemical trials to improve operations and production and reduce chemical usage/costs. Uses statistical techniques to eliminate special causeĀ process variation and analysis problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Provides process/technical support to daily mill operation area(s) including troubleshooting upsets and solving operational problems.

- Maximize through analysis, trials, and controls the efficiency and quality of pulping operation.

- Coordinates and performs chemical trials to improve operations and production, reduce chemical usage/costs, and reduce environmental impact (including working to improve effluent/emission quality).

- Performs machine trials to improve paper quality and run ability, reduce costs, and support product development.

- Provides technical information re: quality and environmental issues to external and internal customers; responds to customer complaints re: pulp and paper quality; maintains quality of by-products.

- Support the execution of reliable and safe manufacturing systems while helping to improve production rates,

- efficiencies, yields, costs, and changeovers.

- Prepare samples for study. Collect, record, and transcribe data. Prepare and show results in reports.

- Practical user of six sigma tools as required, such as process mapping, Gage R&R, Cause & Effect, Risk Analysis (FMEA), Design of Experiments, etc. to facilitate continuous improvement projects. Perform process troubleshooting internally and for customer support.

- Proficient in accessing, organizing, formatting, and charting large amounts of data from information systems for effective visual display for understanding and decision-making.

- Lead teams to elucidate, develop and implement solutions for technical or business issues. Research and assist in assessing new manufacturing technology.

- Support product validation trials and other tests at various customer operations.

Requirements

- Relevant Undergraduate Degree in Engineering/ Science, preferably in Paper Making Technology, Pulp and

- Science Engineering and/or Chemical Engineering.

- Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in Process Engineering in the field of Paper Making or another continuous manufacturing process.

- Technical experience preferred with papermaking process, or other continuous manufacturing processes, quality testing procedures relevant to testing intermediate process and final paper quality.

- Ability to develop and deliver presentations.

- Ability to communicate and interact with officials at all levels of government and to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
