DescriptionNOTICE: Idaho's Public Health Districts are agencies that are authorized by the State of Idaho as independent bodies. District employees are not State of Idaho employees, rather District employees who receive benefits through the Office of Group Insurance.South Central Public Health District is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist 2 to perform professional level work inspecting establishments, evaluating environmental health risks, ensuring compliance with environmental health laws, advising on environmental concerns, and coordinating remediation activities. (K)This position will work in Environmental Health programs, such as child care, land development, food protection, and onsite wastewater disposal. The applicant must be able to meet the National Environmental Health Association credentialing requirements for the REHS/RS or REHS/RS “In Training.” We are recruiting for our Twin Falls office.Example of Duties

Inspect and evaluate environmental health concerns, as well as enforce environmental health laws and advise on environmental concerns.

Evaluate environmental health conditions through inspections, surveys, and investigations of food program establishments, child care facilities, solid waste systems, water supplies, sewage disposal systems, and land development sites for compliance with laws, regulations, and standards.

Conduct tests to determine levels of pollution or contamination, operate and maintain specialized testing equipment and detection devices.

Determine existence and cause of violations and prepare report of findings or case facts.

Aid in the control and correction of environmental practices.

Promote public awareness of environmental laws, regulations, and standards.

Consult with business proprietors regarding health regulations.

Review plans and specifications for land development, sewage disposal systems, child care facilities and food establishments for compliance with sanitation standards.

Work may involve:

Aggressive or hostile situations and exposure to extreme weather, physical hazards, infectious diseases, toxic substances, and hazardous materials.

Lifting 50-pound objects to waist height.

Travel within the local service area of a public health district.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health OR a bachelor's degree in a related field with successful completion of a college level algebra or higher math course and 30 semester/45 quarter hours in the basic sciences, i.e. biology, chemistry, physics, or other physical sciences as well as sanitary engineering or environmental engineering

At least one year of public health experience with an agency to include inspecting facilities and enforcing ordinances, rules, and statutes in at least one of the following programs: food, on-site sewage, day care, swimming pools, nuisance complaints, solid waste, home loan surveys, public drinking water, or vector control.

Credentialed as REHS/RS or REHS/RS "In Training" with the National Environmental Health Association or, at the time of hire, has the ability to obtain credential.

Valid driver's license
