Irrigation and Water Resources Research Assistant

Position Summary:
This position, located in southern Idaho, is available on a continuing basis (contingent upon funding) to assist in the establishment and maintenance of field and/or laboratory experiments and assist with field sampling and/or data collection from monitoring locations in the field associated with irrigation water management and water resources. This position requires the ability to work flexible schedules and/or occasional overtime with reasonable notice.
Minimum Qualifications:
Due to job requirements, successful candidates must be at least 18 years of age. Possess good written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with supervisors, co-workers and third parties. Willingness and ability to: work with and without direct supervision; work flexible and/or overtime schedule when the workload dictates; follow laboratory protocol; follow good safety practices. Willingness and ability to: travel to field work sites with some overnight travel a possibility. Knowledge in one or more of the following disciplines: biology, agriculture, engineering, irrigation, chemistry, or physical sciences; basic personal computer software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Possess a valid drivers license and ability to drive a University vehicle (pass driving record check and defensive driving course).
Preferred Qualifications:
Willingness to: work on research projects that may be aimed at irrigation water management and water resources. Experience in: scientific principles and conducting laboratory experiments; keeping accurate records; working on a farm including operating tractors and other farm equipment; and working in a greenhouse and laboratory. Knowledge of: farm irrigation practices, GIS software, and relational database software. Demonstrated ability to: work in a cooperative manner and be an integral team member; operate, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and resolve basic problems with instruments and farm equipment; follow good safety practices.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Physical ability to: constantly position body and limbs to perform functions of this position in the field and/or laboratory under inclement weather conditions next to flowing water bodies and canyon edges; lift and/or otherwise move field and/or laboratory items weighing up to 50 lbs; work on ladders to install or modify equipment.
Willingness and ability to: work with chemicals and equipment following strict safety rules.
