Job Description: Apex Systems is looking for a Chemist to support quality initiatives and technical assistance. This role is onsite 5 days/week based out of the Southwest Suburbs.

Summary: Provides laboratory and technical assistance to Manufacturing and Quality Systems.

Conducts laboratory tests of materials and inspection of packaged products to determine approval and reports results.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs sensory, physical, and chemical tests on finished products to assure they meet established specifications.
  • Evaluates Bill of Material (BOM) for completeness and proper documentation.
  • Records test data and maintains laboratory work list in LIMS system to assure timely release of finished products.
  • Reports nonconformance with immediate corrective actions in LIMS system.
  • Performs required inspection for manufacturing equipment, storage equipment, and sanitation cleaning.
  • Participates in check sample program with outside institution(s) and in internal proficiency program to verify accuracy.
  • Follows proper GMPs and GLPs.
  • Uses proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary.
  • Assists with Raw Material testing, COA review, and COA filing as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science/Chemistry or Bachelor's degree with relevant experience (minimum of 6 months) in a Laboratory or food company or Associates degree with 2 years' experience in a food processing company with exposure to quality assurance/control/testing.
  • Able to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and small groups.
  • Ability to read, write, understand and speak English Language.
