The Database Administrator is responsible for the performance, integrity, security, and administration of the enterprise-wide databases. The Fund’s database systems include MS SQL and Oracle, with the possibility for future PostgreSQL implementations. Specific duties of this role include database design, testing, planning, implementation, operations, and maintenance. As the subject matter expert on databases, this position works with business and IT teams to implement new systems and processes, and to streamline existing systems/processes for efficiency, as well as triaging enterprise system issues at the database level. The team member in this role is expected to be able to perform these duties with minimal supervision and oversight. Essential Job Functions

Establish and maintain processes for proactive monitoring and maintenance of production databases to maintain maximum availability, performance, integrity, and recoverability

Configure database servers to meet the needs of business applications and processes

Provide guidance and support to IT and end-users on schema design, code review, and query tuning

Be the database subject matter expert on development and enterprise application projects

Provide escalated support of service desk tickets which may have database implications

Identify recurring trends, and recommend and/or implement procedures to resolve related issues

Engage with software vendors as required on database administration requirements and recommendations

Design and maintain database security procedures and guidelines in collaboration with the IT Security team, including user and service account standards/maintenance

Develop optimal database refresh processes of nonproduction instances to support development and business testing needs

Proactively identify database trends, tools, and emerging technologies that may improve the Fund’s database operations and efficiency

Develop and maintain the Fund’s database roadmap to ensure compliance with database product life cycles

Sets goals and achieve measurable results

Contributes ideas to plans and achieving department goals

Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibilities and requirements of the job

Performs Essential Job Functions and Duties with or without reasonable accommodation

Years of Experience and Knowledge

4 or more years’ experience in a database administration role required

Advanced to expert knowledge of one of the following: MS SQL Server, Oracle Database 12c, or PostgreSQL. Experience with all preferred

Advanced understanding of database concepts, structure, and theory

Demonstrated experience with continuous process improvement

Experience in a hybrid Cloud environment desired

Experience supporting ETL and Data Warehouse tools a plus

Education, Licenses, and Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience required

Microsoft or Oracle database certifications a plus

ITIL training or certification a plus

Skills and Abilities

Strong analytical skills for root cause analysis, problem determination, trend analysis

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team

Ability to communicate technical details to non-technical teams

Strong verbal/written communication skills
