Responsibilities

Enterprise Technology (ET) Life is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join the Contract Values & Rating (CVR) product team. The CVR team is an agile, geographically diverse team who owns and supports the legacy master records and supporting service transactions for any policy calculations and servicing transactions needed for the insured or policyowner. This represents more than 8 million life & annuity policies! From premiums and loans to claims transactions and everything in-between, you will help the team deliver on priority initiatives by developing creative solutions, troubleshooting/triaging, and providing production support on nearly every in-force Life and Annuity product sold by State Farm since 1929.

As a Software Engineer in this role, you will get to:
  • Apply existing lead software engineer knowledge and practices for mainframe development, testing, implementation, and support for both batch and real-time transactions for legacy Life & Annuity policies.
  • Collaborate with peers and business partners to update and support policy calculation transactions for legacy Life & Annuity policies
  • Be a part of the migration of 8M+ legacy Life & Annuity policies to a new modern platform
  • Diagnose and resolve complex problems and issues
  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, training, and may delegate work to others
  • Champion and lead others to design and develop for exceptional user experience and resilient applications / transactions

Incumbency: This position will have a 12-month incumbency period for a lateral move and a 6-month incumbency period for a promotional opportunity (beginning on the effective date of the position) which must be met before the employee can post for any other State Farm position. The incumbency period does not affect the at-will relationship between State Farm and the employee and does not create an employment contract, nor contractual rights.

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates with:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, team collaboration skills, and a desire to learn
  • Experience with mainframe programming including:
    • COBOL
    • JCL
    • DB2
    • SQL
    • CICS
    • MQ Series
  • Desired existing technical skills in:
    • Assembler
    • SAS
    • AWS Services
