Wilson Law Office, located in Rantoul, IL seeks an experienced Legal Secretary on a full time basis. The role can be P/T or FTE
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Maintaining confidentiality is a must
Maintain calendar, including client appointments, court appearances, and response dates.
Confirm all appearances (with clients, court reporters, witnesses, and experts, etc.)
Request continuances or extensions as needed
Schedule all depositions of parties, witnesses, experts, etc.
Arrange for court reporters, interpreters, videographers, conference rooms for depositions; prepare calendar slips
Prepare correspondence to clients and attorneys.
Draft legal documents for state, federal and appellate courts.
Answer phones, assist caller when possible, take messages, check voice mail, and return calls, receive and distribute incoming mail
Open and close files including file preservation and scanning as well as independent maintenance of physical and electronic files and records.
Assists in preparation for discovery production and trial by compiling, scanning, downloading electronic data, copying, organizing, and indexing various evidentiary exhibits, as well as preparation of narrative summaries, charts, tables, or other visual aid to be used at trial.
Works in an office setting to include some walking, standing, bending and carrying of small office items is required
There may be a need for the candidate to work overtime depending on work and case load.
This work requires specialized knowledge of litigation processes, court proceedings, as well as legal documents, terminology, and procedures, including e-filing documents.
Basic Qualifications:
Must have 3 years of current legal support experience
H.S. Diploma required. Bachelor's degree preferred
Type at least 80 wpm and comfortable with transcribing dictation
Enthusiastic, loyal, conscientious, and have a sense of humor
Demonstrate ability to review a wide variety of documents, both legal and non-legal documents to include: Motions and briefs, as well as a variety of legal correspondence.
Must be tech savvy and have demonstrated experience using WordPerfect and Outlook
Communicate effectively and professionally, verbally and written
Receptionist duties include: receiving and routing telephone calls, assisting visitors; screening those which can be handled without help.
Must be able to prioritize assignments and deliver results under pressure of deadlines
Skilled in meeting and dealing with people in a courteous and tactful manner.
E-filing documents in various counties including the appellate courts and federal courts
