Job Description - Network Engineer

NETWORK ENGINEER

Seeking an experienced and well-rounded Network Engineer to join a local health system. The Network Engineer will be primarily responsible for configuring, implementing and supporting the LAN, WAN, WLAN data and voice networks and environments for the organization, including all enterprise networks, branch/clinic network services, and business partner network services. Ideal candidates will have the ability to lead projects and mentor Jr. Network Engineers. As a Network Engineer, you will be very hands-on as well as provide day-to-day guidance to other members of the network engineering team, and assistance to members of the infrastructure and security systems teams. Excellent communication skills are required.

Responsibilities:

Planning and operating network routing, switching, firewall and load balancing technologies.

Capacity planning, monitoring and management of all network performance metrics, reporting, and activities.

Designing, configuring, and operating complex switching environments to meet business requirements or enhance performance.

Configuring and operating SDWAN technologies, components and services for access to critical business applications and cloud services.

Configure, support and operate complex and secure wireless networks supporting a variety of guest, corporate and hospital mobile devices and applications.

Implement and support disaster recovery policies and procedures, and business continuity plans and infrastructure solutions.

Design, implement and support a multi-tier network firewall environment and policies.

Resolve network system and application performance issues with the use of packet capture and protocol analysis.

Keeps up to date with new technology patterns and trends. Leads the evolution of network engineering standards.

Mentors other engineers in the implementation of complex technical solutions.

Delivers continuous improvement of network performance through network optimization, monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, and scheduling upgrades.

Work closely with the business and IT to develop high performing, efficient, cost effective, and operationally supportable solutions that meet the business' complex requirements.

Collaborate with other members of the Infrastructure team to create and maintain standards and operating procedures, provide information as appropriate to manager, project manager, and various departments.

Works closely with peers in IT, security, operations and server teams to deliver infrastructure services to support the enterprise throughout the company.

Ability to mentor and recruit junior engineers & enforce good engineering practices.

Act as a project team member and leader as required by the scope of the project.

This position is routinely involved with the configuration and maintenance of physical and logical network components.

Provide support and resolution of network issues as raised by the IT peer teams or the IT help desk process.

Guide and assist with the design and implementation of network security measures and procedures.

Occasional off-hours support including periodic availability via participation in 24x7 on-call rotation.

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or equivalent work experience required.

CCDP or CCNP certification is preferred but not required.

7+ years as a Network Engineer supporting large scale enterprise network infrastructures implementing Cisco solutions.

5+ years designing enterprise scale routing and switching environments.

5+ years of experience with routing, core switching, Cisco Nexus, ASA firewalls, VLAN, VPN, WLAN.

Extensive experience and knowledge in Layer 2 & Layer 3 technologies.

Extensive experience with the following protocols and technologies: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, monitoring tools, network topologies, OSFP, BGP, MPLS, STP, HSRP, VPN, Palo Alto, and Citrix Netscalers.

Strong understanding of deployment, management, and troubleshooting of common networking technologies, including IP routing, DHCP, DNS, Firewalls, WiFi, Switches and VPNs.

Proven experience and ability to manage problem resolutions of complex or intermittent issues in a multi-vendor, integrated enterprise environment.

Experience with network monitoring and performance analysis monitoring tools, and a history of using them for performance tuning and troubleshooting.

Working knowledge of Network access methods including T1, DS3, OC3, Ethernet, Wireless (Cisco AirNet 5500 series).

History of balancing multiple priorities simultaneously with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines.

Proven track record of successfully executing projects supported by plan and process documentation and an implementation framework.

Ability to communicate ideas to both technical teams and business partners, so that they both have a comfortable understanding of key information.

Strong team player with proven experience and ability to collaborate internally among teams, and externally among users, customers, other business units and partners.

Strong Customer Service focus and approach is essential

Provide Root Cause Analysis by determining the cause of a problem and providing a documented resolution.

Strong communications via both written and verbal interactions, in one-on-one and group situations.

Extremely self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail/quality.

Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Demonstrates poise and professionalism while working under pressure.
