Job Description:

The Project Engineer / Project Manager in our Packaging Technology group will be responsible for all aspects of project execution including development of test plans for new package components to evaluate performance of materials for Design Group clients. This position will act as a project lead/SME on packaging activities in a variety of industries (consumer product, beverage, food, etc.)

Responsibilities
  • Create and edit packaging specifications and standards.
  • Develop protocol/test plans to evaluate the performance of primary and secondary packaging materials at client production facilities.
  • Coordination of cross functional team (client corporate resources, production facility contacts, filling location contacts, package material suppliers, OEMs) to schedule and execute packaging trials.
  • Protocol development to include:
    • Base line assessment to identify current packaging material performance on a production line and related distribution system.
    • Test plans to evaluate package material and/or package innovations through Limited Production Runs (LPR) and the Commissioning, Qualification, and Verification (CQV) stage gate process.
    • Create and manage the Project schedule.
    • Data collection packages and related documentation.
  • Participate in and conduct line trials at client production locations to execute protocol, including data collection, sampling, and product sorts.
  • Coordinate distribution testing including ship / stack and additional tests.
  • Write, edit, and publish summary trial reports, including analysis of trial data.
  • Provide post-trial support to corporate clients, Suppliers, OEMs, and client production facilities as necessary.
  • Developing, maintaining, and growing solid client relationships is a key responsibility for the role.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 8 years of package engineering or project management experience with package technology and/or package design and/or manufacturing applications.
  • Special consideration will be given to individuals with experience in the food, beverage, household products, or personal care industries.
  • Certified Package Professional (CPP) via IOPP or similar credentials and affiliation desired.
  • Position requires excellent engineering, communications, and leadership skills. The ability to simultaneously organize, and successfully execute multiple project responsibilities is essential.
  • Candidates need to possess highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact within both engineering and operational environments with both clients and suppliers.
  • Understanding machine-material interactions as well as package material manufacture and application is a key component of the job.
  • Willing and able to travel as necessary for project requirements to include but not be limited to: project installation and start-up activities, client meetings, company sponsored meetings, trainings, industry related seminars, forums, or conventions, etc.

Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Package Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience/technical degree required.
