Job Description - Linux Systems Engineer

LINUX SYSTEMS ENGINEER

A global financial organization is actively seeking an experienced Linux Systems Engineer to join an established team. The Linux Systems Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining availability and high-performance in non-production and production environments. You will work as part of a results-oriented, service-delivery team and assist developers, configuration analysts, release engineers, and operations teams. The Linux Systems Engineer also performs root cause analysis of problems, selects, develops, and implements automation tools, and actively participates in deeply technical discourse. Ideal candidates will have experience with scripting (Python is preferred) and has exposure to Puppet or Containers. Excellent communication skills are desired.

Responsibilities

Assist in the design, planning and implementation of server solutions

Tune and design systems infrastructure for maximum available performance

Automation of manual tasks using scripting and application development

Investigate and adopt new technologies/tools as needs arise

Respond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environment

Evaluate, test, and integrate new operating system versions, drivers, and patches

Provide technical analysis, resolve problems, and propose solutions

Provide support to, and coordinate with, developers, operations staff, release engineers, and end-users

Educate and mentor team members and operations staff

Participate in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours support

Requirements

3+ years of experience with the Linux Operating System (RedHat variants preferred)

Solid scripting experience - Python is preferred, Java or Golang would also work

Experience with automation/configuration management

Familiarity with git, foreman, Jenkins, or equivalent

Knowledge of horizontal and vertical scaling for performance and high availability

Intermediate Linux administration and engineering

Top-tier analytics and problem solving

Ability to work in a service-oriented team environment

Project Management, organization, and time management

Customer focused, and dedicated to the best possible user experience

Communicate effectively with both technical and business resource

Experience with Puppet is a plus

Exposure to AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, or other container technologies
