Job Description
The Sr. Manager of Packaging Engineering role will join the Product Development team and Operations Center of Excellence as a critical member of the technical team, incorporating R&D, Quality and Design.
This person is the primary Global packaging representative, contributing a vital role in bringing developing products to life and supporting the growth of the Instant Brands business. The person will lead and manage functional teams, including resource management, prioritization, critical assessment of technical work, support of project teams, and developing relationships with functional partners. This role is the primary source of our organizational packaging strategy, innovation and will be a key member of our Sustainability efforts.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:- Manage the global process through concept, design, engineering, testing, cost analysis, production, and manufacturing
- Manage a Global team of direct reports and coordinate with our international partners
- Support Global Business unit and brand customers to develop primary packaging and containers for Instant Brands products
- Development of secondary packaging, for primary containers, to handle shipping between retail, consumers, and brands
- Develop strategic relationships with packaging/container companies
- Develop and manage product/packaging performance test, inspection, and reporting systems
- Managing validation/verification of packaging, and operational performance
- Work with the global R&D team on the development of life-cycle analysis for customers
- Troubleshoot and solve packaging, equipment, customer field issues and facilities challenges that arise during development and operation
- Perform all related tasks and assignments as reasonably required within the Product Development team
- Strong communication skills with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Fluent English speaking (other language fluency is a plus)
- Good self-organization and time management skills
- Attention to detail and reliability on data
- Collaborative and able to operate in multi-functional team environment
- Proven ability to assess and order priorities, juggle multiple tasks, and project manage
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in an appropriate scientific, engineering or technology discipline, e.g. Packaging Design, Materials Sciences
- 7+ years of relevant professional and technical experience in the consumer-goods packaging industry, food manufacturing, or retailer technology fields
- An enthusiastic attitude towards sustainability and making a positive difference to packaging and waste
- Expertise in a wide range of packaging materials, for both primary and secondary packaging. Experience with durable packaging materials is a plus
- Expertise in material and packaging testing, experimental design, and report generation
- Experience with development of pathways, such as stage gate process
- Familiarity with packaging regulations and labeling regulations for consumer goods is a plus
- Familiarity with managing packaging supply chains
