Overview Performs all Computed Tomography (CT) exams. Is knowledgeable in the operation of equipment and the procedure/protocols for producing high quality images to furnish diagnostic information to radiologist. Provides quality care for all patients. Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications Education:
  • Graduate of an Accredited School for Radiologic Technologist, required
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
  • ARRT, required.
  • IEMA, required.
  • CT Certification, preferred
  • BLS CPR certification, required
Experience:
  • Previous Imaging Experience, preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Via a team approach, the staff will coordinate the patient flow and schedule of the CT modality.
  • The technologist checks the patients' chart or scripts to be sure the exam ordered by the physician matches the requisition received by the department.
  • Use independent professional judgment to assure exam will clinically evaluate the given diagnosis. Refer discrepancies to radiologist or ordering physician.
  • Prepares the room, equipment, medication and secures supplies needed to perform the exam and maintain a clean and safe environment for patient.
  • Will adhere to safety standards set forth by the organization in accordance with ACR guidelines (ALARA).
  • The technologist will explain the procedure and the function of the equipment to the patient as well as answer any questions the patient may have, will intently review the medical history, to include medication lists and lab results, if performed, prior to starting procedure, check patient record for previous pertinent information or procedures, contact radiologist when direction is needed, document appropriate information in the patient record/PACS system.
  • Performs requested CT exams of appropriate regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols of the organization and the reading radiologist. Observes patient during procedure, reports unusual occurrences and records patients' condition when necessary.
  • Lifts, moves, and transports patients via wheelchair or cart when necessary.
  • Maintain knowledge on the composition, storage, and administration of contrast media agents according to department protocols under guidance and approval of a physician.
  • Transfers, maintains basic quality assurance issues and recalls images from PACS system.
  • Performs equipment quality checks and troubleshoots when appropriate. Reports any need for service or repair to appropriate leadership.
  • Participates in ongoing QA/QC and process improvement programs.
  • Assists in providing a safe work environment and is dedicated to providing patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain continuing education credits in compliance with licensing agency.
  • Maintains clinical competency.
  • Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures including, but not limited to, those regarding infection control, hand hygiene, attendance, and appearance.
