This position is for a Safety Generalist to support a Large Scientific upgrade assembly and warehouse activities in preparation for the movement, staging and installation of the components at the Lab. The Safety Generalist will be responsible for ensuring work activities performed at Client's site as well as several different buildings on the campus adhere to all applicable safety requirements.

The function of the position is to provide daily safety oversight of workers/work involving:
  • warehouse activities such as powered industrial truck operation, stacking, rack population, inventory, receipt and shipping of materials and supplies
  • hoisting and rigging activities of components within the facility for assembly of modules within clean rooms.
  • electronics assembly, troubleshooting, cleaning, and testing
  • fabrication, assembly, testing and movement of magnetic structures and equipment
This position will require development and preparation of work planning and control documentation to facilitate safe work to accompany the oversight activities. This position also serves as a backup to ESH coordinators assigned to the Photon Sciences directorate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Include:
  • Skill in the interpretation of safety and health regulations and establishing the means of meeting regulatory requirements in light industrial and warehouse environments.
  • Knowledge of hazards and exposures common to light industrial and warehouse operations.
  • Familiarity with engineering controls, administrative controls and personal protective equipment used to mitigate hazards in light industrial and warehouse settings.
  • Familiarity with safe use of manual handling devices, such as forklifts, cranes, powered pallet jacks, etc.
  • Familiarity with safe use of common cleaning solvents and alcohols and their worker safety implications
  • Working knowledge of desktop computing applications
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to multiple levels of management and operational staff is required
  • Ability to concisely and effectively communicate ESH requirements/expectations to team members and operational staff
  • Knowledge of the DOE requirements for worker safety and health are a bonus.
  • Certifications as an ASP, CSP, CIH are helpful, but not required.
Experience and Educational Requirements: At a minimum need 10-12 years of experience in an ES&H role with a BS in Mechanical Engineer.
