Role Summary:

This role is a synergistic role between IT portfolio manager and Release Train Engineer (RTE) who is responsible for assisting overall coordination of delivering IT initiatives/value for the Servicing Operations Business Unit. This role leads and participates in efforts to evaluate, select and implement new technologies to enhance application, until or portfolio in partnership with the Development Team Managers, Enterprise Architect and Domain Architect. As a servant leader, the Portfolio Manager/RTE must build trust and goodwill while breaking down functional, divisional, and hierarchical silos to create one team of teams to get decisions made. The RTE must connect stakeholders across the enterprise to help get questions answered, decisions made, problems solved, and ideas championed. This is achieved by understanding the structure, culture, operations, and strategy of a business unit and architecting/configuring practices/processes to enable goal achievement. This role requires the highest degree of empathy, diplomacy, and emotional intelligence. The RTE must help leaders in the organization adapt to the principles and competencies from Lean, Agile, and DevOps to ensure alignment, built-in quality and program execution. The RTE must be an expert in organizational behavior and operations management and act as an architect of the human system providing coaching/mentorship. The RTE's major responsibility is to lead Agile Release Trains (ART)/development teams to success and navigate the complexity of delivering software consistently in large environments. The RTE communicates with stakeholders, escalates impediments, helps manage risk, and drives improvement. They play a critical link between multiple scrum teams/development teams; facilitating communications, opening the flow of information, and sharing important progress updates to ensure all teams involved in the ART are focused on successful delivery. The RTE is accountable for the overall coordination, execution and delivery of value through the program/initiatives while ensuring alignment with company strategy, commitments and goals.

Role Responsibilities:

IT Business Unit (BU) Domain Portfolio Management:
  • Participates in the development of IT vision, strategies, critical success factors and operating plans for application, business unit portfolio in partnership with Business Unit PMO Leader and Domain architect.
  • Leads the creation of Portfolio Reporting in partnership with Resource Managers and Project Managers
    • Financials - Weekly Report/Drawdown of planned vs actuals grouped by the focus area and drill down by Initiative (incl. sub categorization of Must Do) - Labor/SGA
    • Milestones w/ Deliverables
    • Dependencies
    • Resource Capacity Management
      • Planned vs Actuals aligned to the Resource Capacity Management file
      • Resource spend/allocation across Enterprise Portfolio (beyond BU-SO portfolio as resources may need to assist on other initiatives)
    • Risks/Issues/Mitigation (internal to BU portfolio and external)
    • Audit/Tracking of BeMos for all Strategic Investments ensuring adherence to financial policy
    • Benefits Tracking
    • Analysis of current state of the portfolio and identification of areas of risk
  • Creation/Consolidation of Quarterly reporting to IT-SIS for BU-SO Portfolio
  • Monthly: Product SLAs and supporting analysis of reasons for not meeting SLAs
  • Creation/Maintaining of a BU-SO Sharepoint for all Management Materials

Experience: Required -
  • 12+ years of experience in Information Technology industry in large, complex environments with emphasis in Project and Portfolio Management
  • 5+ years of experience working in an Agile software development environment with at least 2+ years as a Release Train Engineer
  • 2+ years of experience in introducing Agile methodologies in traditional software development teams, coaching and mentoring teams through the transition
  • 5+ years of experience in forecasting resource requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in creating budgets and Project Management
Education: Required -
  • B.S.or B.A. in Computer Science or related discipline, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or equivalent job experience.
  • SAFe and/or SCRUM or equivalent certification
Desired -
  • Advanced Degree a plus
  • PMP certification

  • Able to apply critical thinking techniques to analyze problems, develop solutions, build resource forecasts and manage risk
Specialized Skills: Required -
  • Excellent knowledge of SAFe and SCRUM
  • Working across multiple ART across geographies
  • Hands on experience in Scrum & Kanban as well as Agile scaling methodologies - such as SAFe, LeSS and SaS
  • Deep understanding of Agile values, principles, and practices (Scrum and Kanban)
  • Strong facilitation, communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, leadership and negotiation skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning, highly efficient in coaching Scrum Masters, team members and Product Owners
  • Coaching experience in a complex, large agile environment
  • Agile transformation or other organizational change experience
  • Knowledgeable in DevOps practices
  • Agile budgeting - must grasp the concept of taking work to the team compared to project-based funding models
  • Metrics - must understand which meaningful metrics to track, how they should be interpreted, and courses of action needed
Desired -
  • Experience in a large financial services environment is a plus.
  • Experience of working in an organization working in hybrid mode of Agile and Waterfall model
  • Working with teams situated in different geographies and time zones
Work Flexibility:
  • Travel 25% of the time
