Role Summary: The Senior Data Management Specialist will perform data analysis using a variety of tools and methods to provide technical assistance as a subject matter expert in identifying, evaluating and recommending data solutions that meet business requirements. Responsible for understanding, analyzing, and documenting complex business processes & requirements which involve a broad understanding of the upstream and downstream systems, including impact and gap analysis of current data and reporting systems. Review and provide recommendations on data validation and testing approach, systems testing and support, and data quality processes. In addition, provide training, resolve questions, and give direction to less experienced staff as well as providing support to the leadership team on achieving strategic and tactical goals regarding data. We are looking for an experienced, energetic, and collaborative person who is passionate about data, understands technical tools and terminology, has business acumen, and can translate requirements into well written and concise documentation (stories).

Role Responsibilities:

Strategic Work 25%
  • Educate and inform yourself and team members about data integration technology solutions and emerging trends
  • Continually participate in visioning exercises and contribute to the data strategy for VCI

Operational Work 75% of time
  • Provide expert-level consulting services regarding identification and resolution of highly complex data challenges and issues.
  • Design automated technical solutions for current manual processes (i.e. manual merging of Excel spreadsheets, MS Access databases and files)
  • Understand complex business processes and relationships to determine downstream impacts to data and applications
  • Identify areas for data quality improvements and helps to resolve data quality problems through the appropriate choice of error detection and correction, process control and improvement, or process design strategies.
  • Lead discussions with business partners to identify, understand, and document functional and non-functional requirements resulting in data acquisition or integration
  • Provide data consulting services to application teams utilizing supported data environments
  • Understand the existing source system data models
  • Create source-target mapping documents and functional data specifications
  • Participate in and support the full project life cycle (initiation, planning, requirements, analysis, design, development, quality assurance, user-acceptance testing, deployment, and production support)
  • Ensure quality of master data in key systems, as well as, development and documentation of processes with other functional data owners to support ongoing maintenance and data integrity.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and data stewards to define and implement data strategy, policies, controls, and programs to ensure the enterprise data is accurate, complete, secure, and reliable.
  • Manage, analyze, and resolve data initiative issues and manage revisions needed to best meet business requirements while adhering to published data standards.
  • Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support data analytics integration solutions.
  • Document and support deployment activities.
  • Report on status of IT Data Operations products and projects on a regular and timely basis.
