Director, Database Analysis & Development This position can be 100% remote within the U.S.
What makes this fun?You will be the leader of the Production Database Administrator team and you will supervise the work effort and professional development of 25 -40 Production DBA's as well as several second level supervisors (6+ direct reports + matrix environment). This includes scheduling day-to-day activities of each team member, scheduling team contributions to external projects, reviewing the quality of each team member's work, team development, and ensuring team activities adhere to security and compliance standards.Your success in this role will be how you engage other leaders and collaborate to solve problems to foster and build relationships. You will lead teams all around the world and must be able to adapt your leadership style to accommodate norms from other cultures. You and your team will be building these alignments and outstanding commitments in an effort to continue developing future technology and services roadmaps globally - and for the best outcome for internal partnerships all around!Our database environment: Every version of Microsoft SQL, every version of Oracle, Cosmosdb, MySQL, and others. These db instances are hosted in the public cloud and private cloud supporting very high transaction mission critical applications 24x7x365.In this very large, dynamic enterprise environment you will create, maintain, and administer execution plans for the following: WOW!- Maintain the disaster recovery plan which is consistent with the defined recovery time objective, and recovery point objective, for each application
- Create the database maintenance plan which ensures each database is properly backed up, monitored, and routine health checks performed
- Contribute in the infrastructure design to ensure each database cluster will meet performance, scale, and security expectations
- Contribute in the application design review to ensure new schema, stored procedures, and function changes follow best practice guidelines
- Analyze database load and performance and make recommendations to improve performance, scale, and security
- Collaborate with the architecture community to establish SQL best practices which provide governance to application development teams
- Create break-fix contingency plans for supporting ongoing operations 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
- Share leadership on-call duties with other members of the production database administration team for escalations and service disruptions
- Supporting extremely high transaction DB's
- Supporting SaaS applications
- Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
- Object-oriented software development (C#, Java, HTML 5, C, etc).
- Release Management, Change Management and Incident Management policies & procedures
- The ability to employ IT automation to reduce manual tasks and human error
- Technical support / troubleshooting of cloud-based applications
- A desire to learn the skills needed to perform the duties of the position through formal training, self-study
- You have a minimum of 5 years leading and managing teams
