Job Description The Customer & Prospect Engagement (MarTech) engineering team is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead development of technical staff and delivery of projects. This role is instrumental in growing the team and guiding software development to successfully scale, build, implement, and support marketing technology related needs. You will facilitate collaboration with engineers, product managers and business to solve interesting and challenging problems across our marketing technology capabilities. This leader can dive into the details of complex issues quickly and has a passion to harness the power of automation to manage the stability, availability, and scalability of Discover marketing platforms. You will contribute to ensuring the delivery of new audience platform product and other marketing technology capabilities and directly lead the sustainment of these technical solutions

The Senior Manager is a strategic thinker, problem solver and collaborator (nice to have financial industry experience). The leader will be responsible and accountable for risk by exchanging ideas, opinions, and elevating concerns. This person will follow all policies & procedures as defined and operated within Discover's risk management policies and achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, and managing all types of risks.

Responsibilities
  • Continuously create and look for innovative ways to improve processes and functionalities
  • Drive the execution and delivery of features by collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams and product owners
  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers. Assist in enhancing department vision and strategies to support company goals
  • Lead implementation and development of marketing technology solutions (ex: APIs, SDKs, etc.) that drive operational efficiencies in alignment with Product vision.
  • Oversee assigned projects from inception to completion.
  • Partner with Product, Agile and other cross functional teams to implement new solutions and adapt overall process for delivery and execution
  • Advocate technical excellence and help the teams make good decisions
  • Contribute to development tasks such as coding and feature verifications to assist teams with release commitments
  • Empower the team to self-organize and motivate the team to go above and beyond
  • Contribute to architecture, coding, test plans, scrum, release planning etc. to drive excellence and lead team towards its goals
  • Build highly motivated and talented team. Attract and retain top talent to serve as platform and solution engineers within the team. Define resource capacity plan. Coach on leadership development, technology solutions and issue resolutions.
  • Actively and effectively communicate across teams and all key stakeholder groups
  • Conduct all responsibilities in accordance with Company policies, with strong adherence to our corporate values including risk & compliance requirements
  • Contribute to thought leadership, writing, blogging and speaking around Martech space
  • Support Other Enterprise wide technology related solutions and initiatives

  • Manages software ownership and development from initial concept through continuous improvement.
  • Coaches and mentors team members. Supports individuals to achieve their individual development goals. Utilizes Agile and Lean practices to identify an solve systemic issues.
  • Utilizes tools to support data driven decision making. Identifies and removes blockers to enable the team to meet business goals.
  • Consults with management in the analysis of short and long range business requirements and recommends innovations.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here's what we need from you:
  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology, or related field
  • 8+ years of application development experience
  • 2+ years of people management

Preferred Qualifications

If we had our say, we'd also look for:
  • Have architected, built and delivered at least one complex system
  • 3+ years of experience leading software engineering teams with a distinguished track record on technically demanding projects
  • 5+ years of experience with Python, SQL and AWS Services
  • Strong SaaS, AWS, Cloud, API knowledge including reverse engineering and debugging skills to assist in rollout of new features
  • Experience managing large scale distributed systems, working with micro-services and/or distributed architecture
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to be nimble, proactive, comfortable working with minimal specifications
  • Experience in hiring, mentoring and managing engineers
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Experience in communicating with users and product management to understand requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs
  • Masters / Bachelors degree required in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
