Position: Systems Administrator - Intermediate

Location: Rock Island, IL CCDC

Job Summary: Under general supervision, responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining operating system workstations and servers, including web servers, in support of business processing requirements. Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages. Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT and RMF policies and procedures. Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels. Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations. Supports media management through internal methods and procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services. Develops and promotes standard operating procedures. Conducts routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines. Develops and maintains a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation. Executes standard operating procedures and makes recommendations for improvements to the Team Lead. Conducts routine hardware and software audits of servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines. Maintains growth statistics, space forecasts and software and hardware inventories. Performs data backups and recoveries. Monitors and maintains continuity with system software licensing and maintenance agreements. Provides recommendations regarding hardware and system software planning and budgeting. Maintains production change control schedule and participates in change control.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Not listed in order of importance; other duties may be assigned) and must be able to be performed with minimal guidance.

  • Install, configure and maintain operating systems (OS) on web servers, application servers, data base servers residing on physical and virtual platforms. The candidate shall follow established configuration management procedures when performing installations, upgrades and applying patches
  • Install and configure Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) and Government-off-the-Shelf (GOTS) applications used in support of the RA mission. The candidate shall coordinate with the vendor or government customer support personnel to resolve technical issues. The candidate shall follow established configuration management procedures when performing installations and/or upgrades
  • Perform steady-state corrective maintenance to restore a failed system to operational status. Corrective maintenance involves replacing or repairing software/hardware components that are responsible for the failure in the system. Corrective maintenance is performed at unpredictable intervals.
  • Perform STIG reviews on a quarterly basis to ensure compliance and provide a report of non-compliant STIGS to the Government POC. Apply settings following established configuration management procedures. The candidate shall record the results and maintain non-compliance documentation in a centralized database
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures including DoD STIG requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Education / Experience / Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related work experience (relevant experience - field preferred - and education may be considered in lieu of a degree)
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Must possess and maintain an IT I level certification IAW AR 25-2 and an IAT II certification IAW DoD 8570.01-M
  • Cloud computing/administration experience is a plus
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate Certification is a plus

Physical Requirements Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. May include lifting weigh up to thirty (30) pounds as necessary.

Security Clearance: Position may require a DoD security clearance.
