Job Summary As the Solution Architect for Global Transportation Planning (GTP) and Group Operational Passenger (GOPAX) systems, you will be a vital member of the three-person leadership team identifying the right solutions to solve technical challenges and providing strategic guidance to our client General Dynamics IT (GDIT), our USTRANSCOM (USTC) partners, and three software delivery teams. Together the organization is responsible for development and operation of a suite of applications that facilitate planning, forecasting, and management of USTC’s global transportation mission. GTP, consisting of four primary applications, and GOPAX systems facilitate and optimize the movement of millions of pounds of cargo and hundreds of thousands of passengers around the US and the rest of the world each year. GDIT has held the contract for this application suite since 2015. Winning the re-compete in October 2019, the current contract will begin its second of four option years on October 1, 2021. The team is very well respected and trusted by the USTC community for its high level of skill and commitment to quality. GTP is beginning a cloud transformation initiative refactoring the applications to run in containers and deploy to AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service using a GitOps methodology based in GitLab CI, and Flux CD. Your role in this effort is to provide guidance to the development teams, feedback to USTC’s IT leadership on mission-aligned strategies and tactics that enable the successful delivery of value to the users of these applications.

Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions/Competencies
  • Analyze current technologies and frameworks used on the project and determine ways to improve
  • Document and monitor requirements needed to institute proposed updates
  • Account for possible project challenges and constraints including risks, time, and scope
  • Work closely with project management teams to set strategic goals
  • Provide specifications for proposed solutions and pair with delivery teams to execute them
  • Define clear goals for all aspects of a project and manage their proper execution
  • Assist development teams with security hardening and secure coding practices

Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain Interim Security Clearance-Secret
  • Project management and leadership skills are essential
  • Current understanding of best practices regarding system security measures
  • Positive outlook in meeting challenges and working to a high level
  • Advanced understanding of business analysis techniques and processes
Education
  • No minimum requirement
Work Experience
  • 2-5 years' experience developing IT and cloud infrastructure
  • 10 years' experience in software engineering and design (5 years Java)

Working conditions (if needed) Once returning to the office, the expectation is 2 or 3 days per week at GDIT office on Greenmount Rd. in O’ fallon IL with WFH the other days. 1-4 hours per week will be required at Scott Airforce Base in Shiloh, IL (about 10 minutes from office) for collaboration with Government Program Management and Enterprise Information Technology organizations.
