Mentors and directs the work of other business systems employees. Leads complexand large projects to assure goals and objectives are met within an arranged time frame.Defines systems scope based on user needs, a thorough understanding of the business, andindustry. Ensures solutions meet or exceeds customer expectations. Leads business processredesign programs and defines which new technologies are needed. Leads meetings totranslate high level business requirements into functional specification and manages thespecification changes.

Conducts strategic planning activities including communication of organization unit strategy with IT staff. Negotiates with business to prioritize requests that support business objectives and drives business assessment of project cost/benefits. Works with Portfolio Management to manage project prioritization and provides input for business assessment of project cost/benefit analysis. Develops technology plans aligned with business and IT strategies and proposes changes to systems & service portfolio.

Supports Business development activity including development of project proposals, coordinating technology spending, identifying opportunities to leverage technology, and identifying business sponsors for technology.

Develops and maintains relationships with industry leaders. Communicates business requirements to IT. Develops, negotiates, and manages business unit expectations of technology services, solutions, deliverables, budgets, and timelines. Proposes changes to service level agreements and directs resolution between business and IT Service requirements.

Manages meetings with business leadership to identify and validate system requirements and processes. Supports businesses with building business plans including ROI and benefit/cost analysis.

Leads change management initiatives, validates recommended changes, and communicates/markets plans. Reviews and provides input on training documentation and develops process to measure success of changes.

Tracks industry by evaluating media, technology trends, and vendor strategies. Identifies technology opportunities to help with business issues. Provides input to IT management on technology standards and operations. Prepares reports on emerging technologies for discussion with businesses.

Performs other duties as directed.

Qualifications

University degree in Computer Science or related discipline plus generally ten years ofdirectly related experience.Experience in leading IT projects & programs and managing IT teams.Expert technical and/or IT development experience.

Understanding strategic imperatives:

Rapidly gain clear and comprehensive understanding of UL’s strategic imperatives and digital priorities. This will allow to bring UL’s strategy down to actionable initiatives and provides clarity into the outcomes we’re trying to achieve with client.

Rapidly gain understanding of the customer experience and needs:

Focusing on the customer experience requires adopting an outside in focus.

Understanding the customer needs and the challenges they face will allow the individual to take an outside in approach and create solutions client needs, wants, and will love.

Reimagine business processes:

The digital space moves quickly. In many cases, the candidate may not only need to improve a process, but also completely reimagine a process and create disruption in the System.

To be successful, the candidate needs to gain a solid understand “business and operational” processes

How to analyze and understand processes, develop new processes, and drive organizational change is imperative.

Embrace agility:

Embracing agility goes beyond any framework and includes an understanding of Lean mindset and practices.

The person has to harness the power of Agile and Lean thinking to bring about change.

A sense of urgency is a MUST.

Continuous stakeholder collaboration:

While client System combined with UL stakeholder engagement is core to business analysis in any our environment, engagement activities need to be continuous in the digital environment we are in.

The evolutionary and experimental approach with Agile and digital will require frequent feedback, face-to-face interaction, and conversations with stakeholders.

Strategic use of data:

One way to enable better collaboration with client System stakeholders and understand the client’s is through data.

We collect a lot of data about the client System customers; through our advisory and verification services, as well as with interactions with stakeholders and eventually through social media.

Using data analytics to interpret that data and better understand client needs allows us to build better solutions. It also allows us to take an evidence based approach to decision making.

Therefore, having a good grasp of data science fundamentals is essential.

Understand technology:

The candidate does not need to understand technology at a software engineer level, yet understanding technology will allow him/her to find new ways of working and new capabilities for the client and UL.

He/she needs to be able to work with business leaders and help them understand what is possible.

Furthermore, having a through understanding and keeping ahead of technology developments will enable the individual to develop innovative solutions. Therefore, a creative and innovative mindset is essential.

Embrace product management:

Be flexible and adaptable to shift from projects to product thinking.

As Business Analysts, he/she needs to understand how to work with Product and Process Owners and sometimes serve as a proxy for the Product and Process Owner.

He/she will need to be accountable for the outcomes resulting from the products and establish a deep understanding of our clients and their needs.
